Hey guys,

I really need to get myself a jig specific rod. I have all Dobyn's Fury stuff since it is affordable and a good value. I've got a really nice selection of custom jigs I bought from NorthStar a few years back (football, arky head, etc). I never fish them because I always have something else tied on (Texas Rig usually). I'll probably pair it with a Shimano SLX XT 151HG (7.2:1) reel.

Any recommendations on a good jig specific rod? Let's say $200 budget (maybe $250 if something is really worth it)

Falcon Expert Amistad is $200 very similar to the prior Cara's or the new Cara Amistad is $250. They also make XH version if the same.

Looks like the MH rods are all moderate fast taper. The heavy is fast but that seems like a lot of rod for 1/2oz jigs?

I’d think I’d want a MH Fast. I should mention I’m in Arizona so it tends to be a little more finesse vs the giants in Texas haha

Those amistads are awesome rods. I used to have 3 in the old cara line and would use them for so many different techniques. I wish I never got rid of them. Tx rig, jig, carolina rig, swim bait, chatterbait, even a trap.

So you would go with the MH Moderate Fast for jigs? Or the Heavy Fast? I guess I just haven’t heard a lot of people recommend a Heavy rod for jigs unless your throwing some big stuff.

Heavy rod is all I’ve seen people use for jigs.

I only use 3/8 or 1/2 jigs unless I'm fishing football head where I will go up to 3/4oz. It's a great all around rod like Javelin mentioned. I've got like 8 or 9 of them.

Really? Wow…I’d understand for flippin and pitchin. I guess things are just bigger in Texas 😛

I typically downsize in AZ

Ahhh okay I see on their website now that each model has a specific name. I was looking on Tackle Warehouse and they didn’t have any of the names listed so I was confused.

Yes the xx-7-173 version. EC is the Expert or CC for the Cara. The Lowriders are nice rods too. They are $130. However, I don't have any experience with the Amistad model in that line up.

Depends on how I am fishing flipping grass or wood I tend to use a heavier rod, casting I use a MH fast or mod fast, whatever they list the amistad at it is perfect

Really like my Falcons but my Dobyns 734 and 735 are my go to jig rods. They are labeled heavy and mag heavy, but they have a lot of tip and don't fish like a heavy action rod at all. The balance on the Dobyns makes it feel like a feather. Dobyns has several different price levels for those rods. I have sierra and chanpion. Both are great, but the higher price champion is what I pick up.
