Another vote for Eastern Tennessee and the Crystal River area of Florida. Again because of no income taxes and the climate. Love the fishing around Crystal River.

Retirement plan is big 5th Wheeler. May thru September head north to get out of the heat. Thousand of places to live in the US that are more scenic than Texas.Generally I like the Texas political climate although they are trying to really screw that up.

Just got back from a couple of days at a buddy of mines place who retired near Bandera. Real nice place. 70 acres with a big shop and super nice house. Watch your deer evenings and mornings. Super quiet.Nice area with cool small towns. Close enough to San Antonio to catch a plane or get about anything needed. That would be a good option in Texas but the price on that type of place is growing crazy.

Retirement will be more of a game time decision. Going to retire in 5 years. That will be 46 years. Retirement depends on the price of things vs the 401K and pension. Probably set it all up in the last 18 months of work.

Laramie , Wyoming in the summer months is my plan after age 60

Guntersville is really nice. We have friends who live on the lake, and that may be the best fishing lake I have ever been on!

We are contemplating Florida, but so is everyone else in America

I love the Flagstaff, AZ area. They get more snow there than just about any city in America, at least cities of 50,000 or more. I wanted to move there in the 80s but couldn't find a job.

Eufaula,Al. would be real good choice....good fishing lake plus Seminole is an hour away and several other good lakes are within 2 hour drive.....far enough south that you can fish almost every day of the year plus favorable demographics and crime rate is low.....

Nowhar.
