I normally don't trade at this store, but out of convenience did so today. The pump price was 3.89 per gallon but jumped to 4.09 when I started pumping. When I stopped, it went back down to 3.89. So, I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went to ask them why. She said I looked like a fine understanding young man and that paying at the pump via credit would cost me more. So I took off my hat and said imagine that, me buying from you.
I always pay for gas with my debit but use the credit option because the stations sometimes put a $200 hold on the account. The gas company says it's the bank. My bank said the gas company is full of it. I found out though that if you use the credit option with your debit, a hold doesn't happen.
Anyway, watch the pump. This was at the Valero on the corner across from Wal-Mart in AP. If you pay at the pump via debit credit, it'll cost you .20 per gallon more.

I see what you did there..... but I don't buy gas at Valero, try to go Quiktrip or Buccees when I can, if not nearby I go to Exxon (former Mobil employee here)
Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

Its not that uncommon for them to charge more for credit. When I see that I pay with cash.

We have a Shell station in town that has 4 different prices. State Cars (via contract), Shell Credit Card, Other Credit Cards, and Cash. Never see cars filling up there because they have the highest price (other credit card) on their sign. The pumps have you select payment method first and that changes the display on the pump to the price.
But I always get my gas at Costco, always the cheapest in town and the same tanker delivers to all the stations in town.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

I only buy gas where they take bitcoin.
That whole difference in price for cash vs card is dumb. I get it that merchants pay a percentage for credit card users. But just build that junk into the cost of your goods.

I support my local Ghandi Mart. He is always cheapest and charges the same price, cash, credit or debit. For diesel fuel he is the cheapest around at $4.49 and he has Black Cherry Soda, so I get my fix when I fill up.
Reality. What a concept!

Every morning before opening, he drives to the Raceway and then goes back to his store and marks his gas one penny cheaper.
He is truly a sick individual.

Thanks for that heads up. The gas stations need to be careful about doing that. Some TV lawyer will be doing a class action lawsuit about that stuff. Only problem I see is that we as the consumer will wind up paying the price in the end. Only solution I see is going into the store, waiting in line to give the cashier a couple or more hundos, recording that handoff on your phone to avoid any possibility of confusion then going back out to pump your fuel. Then go back in and wait in line again to get your change. Seems efficient way to handle all that. SMDH.

It was common about 10-15 years ago. The numbers on the sign would flash between the two prices. I see it some now and agree, not making it plain is wrong.

Too many card readers out there. I always go inside to pay. Heck, Mom had her credit card number stolen back in 1994 by a gas station employee when she paid inside. You can't trust the machines or the humans. Most stations that charge different amounts for cash or credit usually advertise it on their signs. Pretty sure they have to.
