Was headed in today after an afternoon of fishing on Texoma. All the sudden I heard/felt a little boom feeling like I hit something. I stopped, lifted the motor and all looked normal. It started right up but won’t seem to click into gear.

I don’t think I hit anything. I was out in the middle well off grabdpappys point.

Could this be a spun prop? Any ideas from that description?

You didn't mention what type /make engine and year....will your prop spin freely by hand when in neutral... if so check to make sure the shift cable is in place and working...the shift cale is the cable that moves the shifter lever in your motor forward or reverse...and the cable can be seen inside the cowling of your motor.... on some motors the cable can jump out of the holder and wont operate the shift lever gears...if the shifter cable is in place and is moving and it won't engage in gear... most likely an issue/failure in your lower unit.. either the shift rod..or the lower unit gears/ bearings...based on the bump feeling you describe could be a bearing or gear failure in your lower unit..

Gary, I didn't know you were on here. I actually tried to call you from the lake yesterday. I will call you later and likely need to bring it in.

ToadThrower, thanks for the advice. I will check that out.

It's a 2003 225 Merc
