I’m hearing conflicting reports. TPWD says the white bass are “good” up river as of March 9: https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fis...&yearcat=2022&Submit=View+ReportBut they say the water temp is only 50, plus there’s no rain, plus the reports on this forum seem to agree it hasn’t started. What gives? I’m planning to go out trolling the river this week, starting from the main lake and continuing up river until I find where they’re staging.

They normally are running by Valentine’s Day, should be in full swing now. Been catching crappie up river for a couple of weeks now as well.

New fishing report just showed up on TPWD website for Granger. Looks the same as last week…white bass are “good up river on twister tail jigs”. What’s funny is the water temp has evidently gone DOWN to 49 degrees. It was reported as 50 degrees last week. https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fis...&yearcat=2022&Submit=View+Report

Update for March 19 (Saturday):
Took my boat out trolling the San Gabriel between the Steps and the primitive boat launch between 1pm and 7pm. Was using 1/4 oz white jigs with curly tails. Idling at speed of 1.5 to 2.5 mph. Only caught 4 total white bass, 2 of which were keepers. Lots of kayakers and small boats out. Talked with lots of guys and it was pretty much the same story with everyone. The only success was with those fishing for crappie. Fish finder was showing a decent amount of fish between 5 and 10 feet but they were either not hungry or they weren’t white bass. Water temp was 67 degrees. Not sure why TPWD reported on 3/16 that the temp was 49 degrees. They’re either smoking something or they made a typo. Anyway…normally this technique of trolling works very well in that stretch of river, but not today. Still had great time though. Weather was flawless.
