Nothing. That's what we did 42 years ago. I paid the preacher $20. The ladies at the church made punch, a wedding cake and decorated for us. What mattered most to me was marrying the girl of my dreams.

She was so beautiful.
Still is.

The Boss and I were married in St Thomas as well. The officiating minister was Rastafarian. Funniest wedding vows I have ever heard. $50 and I got two doobies as a wedding gift from him that were "Guaranteed to Enhance Male Performance".

Maybe you could get everyone on the invite list (possibly excluding your sister) to pitch in $1K each not to go and then they could have a nice honeymoon on you guys.

Major rain right before the wedding and got soaking wet. Had to run for cover under a lifeguard stand while the wife had a giant umbrella...no room for me. That was my first indicator of my place in the world.

It's very simple. They don't want you there that badly.

You guys are funny though. My favorite was that her parents should put a hard stop to the event. I'm trying to imagine Jen's mom and dad telling us we couldn't go get married or bring the family for an all inclusive trip to paradise. I'm pretty sure I know how she would have responded.

We went to the Caymans to get married for this very reason. If you were integral to the event, we flew you down. If you were in the gray area, you got to fend for yourself and we sincerely hoped none showed up. We had a few that prodded and pried the info out of us and showed up there on the beach with smiles on their faces but very few.

Put yourself in the bride's position....You're going to piss some people off if you don't invite them to a local event and where do you draw the line? It's tough. And have you seen what is involved in planning a large event? The financial costs and investment of your time are absurd. I can't imagine post-Covid. So, you pick a far off place with a nice beach and do the check boxes on the website and pay the fee. Choose your color of flowers and which little archway you want.... check. Choose one of the three cake options.... check. Do you want the gal with the harp, the gal with the violin, the piano keyboard guy or all three? Check. Choose what you'll have for dinner that evening from these three options... check. Then you put your credit card info in and you're done.

Then, for the rest of your life you have these photos of you on a white sand beach with your loved ones and the most fond memories of the trip. Staying local you're having to pay for Aunt Nelda's alcoholic cousin's kids to have a dried out chicken breast that they won't eat and the bottles of liquor you paid through the nose for didn't last as long and now everyone's pissed off, especially the neighbors, friends and relatives that you had to not invite to make the guest list down to a certain number.

NO THANK YOU. Destination wedding every single time for this guy! wink

J

See the hot blonde in the photo Butch from 2008? She just brought me a sandwich and freshened up my cup of coffee.

Don't make me beat you down with more pictures of paradise because I will.

Our officiator of the ceremonies (Godfree Magoo, no joke) wished us wedded bliss for the next 30 years. What in the heck happens in 16 more?
