Ok, so I am a crappie fishing novice. I have been having decent success lately catching em in timber with Livesscope and a 7’ rod. Most guys I see these days fishing standing timber are using really long fishing poles, 10’ plus. If money was no object which rod, action, and length would you buy for fishing timber and brush piles?

I’ve used a lot of them and my favorite is an 11’ Jenko Kevin Rogers mid seat. Good mix of backbone and sensitivity.

I've got 2 10' rear seaters and 2 12' mid seat crossover ACC crappie stix. I only use the 12 footers. They have plenty of back bone to swing big crappie in the boat but I did have one of them break over Christmas. I emailed them and they immediately sent me a replacement with no questions asked. They are the only rods I've used, so I don't really have anything to compare them to.
It takes a while to get used to a 12' foot rod but once you get the hang of it, I wouldn't use anything shorter. I personally didn't like the rear seater and prefer to mid seat reel placement.

The longer poles started in use once people zeroed in with Livescope and saw those bigger fish swim off before they got close enough to use that 8-10 fter. I'd look closely at ACC Crappiestix in 10 or 11. I recently bought the 11 ft rear seat and like that very well. Reel at the back balances the rod perfectly and is easy to use for hours without the arm getting tired. I've also got some 10s and 12s ACC. Great rod.

Mid seat I hold the rod at the reel with a spinning reel and balance the rod under my forearm to fish. Give's me a solid hookset every time! Rear seat I'm losing power in my hookset with my wrist being the weak link! Probably doesn't matter on small fish but it does on big fish buried deep in cover! Plus I broke my wrist about 15 years ago and I never regained strength with it. I'm sure I would be fine if I fished with one more but they seem awkward to me! Baitcasters which I hardly use any more I hold above the reel at the tip of the grip and I hold the reel upside down. Again that's just for balance. I reel backwards if I hook a fish and need to reel. THat's what works for me anyhow! Slew

i've got two 11 footers and they do everything i need them to. make sure they have enough line guides. the longer the pole and line, the easier it is to get the line and rod tip tangled up. the more guides the better.
