I can't figure out why the fishing in Nails Creek is so poor this year. Plenty of water and the clarity was excellent today. I think I'm done with it until I hear a decent report. For all four of us to get skunked is really discouraging.

Well dang, I was planning on going to the yegua Friday morning but it doesnโ€™t sound like it will be worth the long drive.

I went out yesterday morning and fished for 3 hours. I only caught 7 white bass. I tried in the evening at Irwin Bridge and caught only 4.

I worked my way downstream of Irwin this morning for maybe 3/4 of a mile. A ways past both the small creeks. I didn't get a bite so I went back and tried at the bridge but only caught 1 white bass. I went over to Newman Bottom and caught 8 in the first hour. Then the sun came out and the wind picked up so I called it a day.

The COE opened the gates to 95 cfs on the 25th. The lake was 0.57 foot above normal at that point.

The creek is almost back to normal level. The flow hasn't slowed much more but it does seem to be slowly clearing in certain areas. The remarkable thing is I saw spawning activity last night and again this morning.

Today my wife and I were fishing Newman's Bottom and we found a jacket near the first bend downstream from the low water crossing. We left the jacket in the parking lot on one of the rocks. It's a drill team jacket from the Redding Raiders.

Maybe this was the spawning activity J-Moe was alluding to.

And if I can catch some river minnows(spot-tails), on Lake Travis tomorrow...
I may try Irwin Bridge or Newman's Bottom(and if the gates open) thumb

(Update: caught couple of dozen river minnows the other day on Lake Travis, but all where very small)

=========================================================

The water color was still muddy, from what I would consider.Basically, being I could only see my jig or the action of my curly-tail 2 or 3 inches from the surface. But there was at least a good water flow...

Also I didn't catch my first fish till about 1:00, after the sun finally broke about noon. Then I worked that same 50' area for another hour to catch 3 more...
Went back to car to eat a sandwich and have something cold to drink. And at that point I was thinking of going to Nails Creek, but after stopping by the 125 bridge at Nails creek on the way to Newmans Bottom and not seeing much water flow...I decided I'd walk all the way down stream to the pipes, and work my way back upstream.
But fortunately never made it that far, being I decided to try an area right before the low water crossing. And wound-up catching a fish within the first 2 or 3 casts. So I stuck with that area for about 2 or more hours to catch 7 more...
Like I said before, I work hard making a lot of casts in every spot I tried.Especially in the spots I thought I might have just a slight pick-up or finally hook into one....

Still not sure if these were fish that had moved up from the last big rains when the water was up 3 or 4 feet(what it seemed anyhow from some debree lines) or had moved up recently. But either way, I know there is still some more fish there being I know I didn't catch them all grin
Especially catching 8 more (3 lost and 1 throwback) right before dark just 100' down from the bridge at the parking lot.And I'd worked that area real good earlier without a bite...

Anyway, I never could find my digital camera...So I guess everyone will just have to take my word on the fish I caught with no pics duel

May try again next week if still not working, and we can get 2 or 3 days of sunshine with lows no less than 40 degrees and highs 60+ degrees...Which looks like maybe next Wednesday or Thursday, if the predicted forecast is right hammer
