I have a Minn Kota 40AT with foot control and it died on me suddenly. I had been fishing for an hour or so (not catching anything) when the TM became unresponsive. I pulled it up to make sure that nothing was tangled in the prop and it was clear. I moved the speed control to 4 and the TM spun for a second. Then I moved it back to 5 and it has not moved since.

The battery is not the problem. I charged when I got home and tried it again with no response. The wires from the battery go to an outlet at the front of the boat where the TM plugs in, and I have determined that power is going to that outlet.

Now I'm suspecting that one of the three switches has gone bad. I would think it would be the momentary foot switch since that one gets used so much. The speed controll and the mom-off-con switches almost never get moved.

Can anyone give me some pointers on isolating the problem and trouble shooting the switches?

I'm not too electronically inclined so if this gets too complex I may just have to take it in. Has anyone done business with Fish Finders Marine in Round Rock?

Thanks!

Now that I think about it, if the momentary foot switch has gone bad the TM would still work on constant, right? That would point to the speed control. Am I on the right track?

Yep, I'm getting power beyond the plug.

With my TM when it died I pulled the cover and took two jumper wires that went directly to the motor where it comes up thru the shaft --and hooked it to a 12v battery and it spun the motor so I new it was ok--took it in and the circuit board was fried-- frown
