Thinking of taking my yak down to the coast and was wondering if there was a map or any insight on close access to reasonably good fishing grounds down there. I know some spots, but they'd probably be a long paddle from the nearest access. Any input is appreciated! Feel free to PM if you'd like as well. Thanks so much!

Launch off 361 and fish Brown & Root or Stedman flats or Redfish Bay. Launch at Paradise Key and catch specks in the ICW or reds on the adjacent flats. Launch at Port Bay Rd., or Egery Flats, or Big Tree in Lamar. Lots and lots of places.

Dean Thomas at Slowride in Aransas Pass used to sell the laminated, 2-side color map with Lighthouse Lakes Trails on one side and Brown & Root Flats on the other. Well worth having, and one could kayak fish a different spot on those maps every day for a year and not do them all. All of Jim Ford's recommendations will work. Read the wind, pick your spot. Good luck, IslandJim

Not sure when you're going. That'll make a difference for sure. You can also launch near the end of Beasley Ave in Aransas Pass. There you have access to deep channels as well as flats you can fish. If the wind kicks up you can also wade the ICW too.
You get out of it what you put into it!
