Robin and I hit Cedar Creek last night. It was a good night for number, but the fish were mostly on the small side. We caught lots of yellows, small whites, and a few real nice whites mixed in. We actually caught a few catfish too before it got dark. Unfortunately the hybrids were missing in action.... and the gar were not around either (yes, fly fishing for gar is under the lights is pretty fun too!)

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

Artan,

Christian was a most gracious host, we worked all around the lake, hit the lights and, like he said, landed quite a good number of fish. Six weight was way too much rod most all the night but there was this one that I felt fortunate to have hooked on the six weight.

This is a boat lake. Its surrounded by homes and resorts. The fishing is great in boats though. If you get a chance to go, take it!

Artan,

I'll take you someday, just remind me. Unfortunately I think the hybrids are gone, so I dont think I'll be making many trips out there until next fall. I might make a few trips in the summer, once all the other opportunities more locally are gone.

Christian

It took me a day or so to catch up on sleep and then we had Mothers' Day. But I do want to thank you again for giving me the back seat. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Little channel cats here

That the hybrids have moved off of the docks and presumably out to deeper water, how would one target them now? I know that up on Texoma there is a lot of lead core casting and following the sonar to track schools of them. Have you ever tried anything like that? Just curious because getting into a bunch of mean old hybrids sounds like it could be a good trip!

Again, thanks for the ride!

P.S. I did some testing and the whole casting issue with the pearow two weight was only that I was forcing it to cast a fly that it and the line were simply not designed to cast.

Robin, the Hybrids may not be gone from the docks for the whole summer. But the really big ones probably are. There were a few months right in the middle of the summer two years ago when we caught 3-4 pound Hybrids underneath pods of Gar in the lights. It was kind of like they were just hanging out waiting to pick up the scraps that the Gar dropped. The big ones can still be caught, but it's a daytime affair.

Also, if you were throwing lead eyed clousers on the pearow 2 weight rod, you'll need to use a 4 weight line...assuming he's still building those on the Forecast blanks.

Steve

Hey Steve

Good to see you here. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed fishing those docks. I will have to get a full sink line and some smaller flies. But also, I just realized that a part of the problem was all the leader that I was using. If I had gone to just a couple of feet or 18" of fluorocarbon instead of a four foot leader with two feet of tippet I may not have had that "dumping" that I was experiencing.

I believe that a 2-3 lb. hybrid or sandy on that two weight would be one Nantucket sleigh ride of a time.
