I guarantee I can find somewhere on that lake that is protected and I guess fish don’t bite when it’s windy?

Well, sounds like you should have taken the boys fishing somewhere protected and out of the wind...

5-6 years back, Lance and I drove down to Zapata for a planned 2-day trip with Robert Amaya on Falcon. Had a great dinner at El Rincon and spent the night at the motel, and the next morning the wind was howling to where Lance said "I'm not going out in that. You and Robert have a good time." Right about then Robert called and apologetically said "Sorry, but we're not going out in that. There's 2-foot rollers out there. I'll give you guys a make-up date" even though all we were out was the 7 hour drive from Georgetown TX and a night at the Sundowner motel. Then we had lunch at the Steak House and headed on back home.

Excuse the long story, but safety and comfort are paramount for a couple old farts like Lance and me. It was a disappointment because I really like Falcon a lot, and Robert was a fun guide to go out with. And the food down there is great. But sometimes Mother Nature has different ideas and it pays to listen to what she tells ya.

That measured midlake? Or using the land based forecast models?

When I was a kid I was lucky to find a good bank to fish off of.

I booked a trip with a top Centex guide, Charles Whited. Serious guide and tournament winner. Booked for a full-day Tuesday trip in December. He called me on Sunday night and said that it was gonna be terrible windy and cold on Tuesday, and we could go if I wanted to, but he knew I'm 71 years old and said "you wouldn't be comfortable, believe me." I knew it was gonna be nasty, but I didn't want to cancel on him. He courteously gave me a rain check on another date, even though I hadn't paid him anything. I offered to prepay and he said "not necessary. We have mutual friends and I trust you."

Not only a great stick. A courteous and reasonable guy. Hey, he probably didn't want to go out in the [censored] himself, but would have if I wanted to.
