Anyone ever been to a Spalsh Dogs dock jumping event? I was a post that they were going to be able Argyle Feed Store May 3-5 for a competition. First timers can go and jump during the practice sessions as well. I was thinking of taking my one year old GSP and trying it but he has never done it before and I was curious hos these events go. I don't want to get in the way with a first time dog if its mostly experienced dogs and handlers trying to be all serious.

Any experience out there?

take him and watch a couple or three, ask some questions and try to get the feel of it then let him jump.

they invite newbies to get more into the sport, we used to do it with canoe/kayak/raft racing and even offered free lessons to first timers.

You will have to show him how. Get a real good running start.

My son and I started our labs out jumping off lake docks. went to one amateur competition in Killeen about 9 years ago. My pup was freaked out by the crowd and was the end of his competing days. Still dock jump but without the crowd and competition.

Had a place in Sanger but they moved to Krum and won't reopen until 2020. My wife has a dog that does it.

Shiner Boch my lab won't jump off a dock but at the dog park he can jump about 8' with a short running start. It is impressive.
