We've got a trip scheduled for the week of April 14. I haven't been there in 25 years. Box Canyon Road was gravel then. Is it paved now? Is the ramp okay?

Yes the road is paved & they have a nice big 4 lane ramp with a courtesy dock.

I remember going down that road years ago and when you got to the ramp you had a 1/4" of dust covering everything in your boat. Rod and reels would have nothing but grit if left out in the boat.
Ramp was a one lane at the very back of a rocky cove, but it sure beat that long sometimes rough boat ride up to marker 10.

They have it paved all the way to box canyon they did not pave the cutoff to Amistad Acres. Back in those days the courtesy dock was one of the tires to keep from scratching your keel. Been their & Still doing that at Amistad Acres.

I think it took me over an hour before they paved that road. Broke every light bulb on my trailer.

After driving that road and launching at that old ramp all those years, I'd give them a 20 and feel bad like it wasn't enough!

It is not a launch fee it's a daily lake use pass fee it is $4 a day for Amistad NRA lake use pass; $10 for a 3 day pass; $50 for an annual pass. They still sell the passes at the visitor center located at 9685 Highway 90 West.

roflmao that’s funny, now anyways. I know it wasn’t when it happened.

My buddy has a trailer house out there and when we fished tournaments, he’d stay at a hotel in town just so he wouldn’t have to drive the road more than necessary.

I don’t know if you guys remember them or not; but I sure do miss Dwayne and Lilly that helped run the store out there. She made some of the best food for us.

The Texas Association of Bass Clubs was the organization that really was responsible for getting the road paved as well as the ramp built!!!

Interesting, who paid the rancher the money and who drilled the water wells he required?

Seriously, Not the Texas Association of Bass Clubs..

Val Verde County, in conjunction with the TxDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing to construct a paved roadway to the Amistad Acres subdivision near the Amistad Reservoir northwest of Del Rio in Val Verde County, Texas. Current access to Amistad Acres is along an existing unpaved private road (Holman Drive), which bisects a ranch headquarters.

The purpose of this project is to create a dedicated Val Verde County roadway that will route traffic from Box Canyon Road to Amistad Acres.

The proposed access road will:•Eliminate the need for subdivision traffic to pass through private property
•Consist of two 10-foot lanes and two four-foot shoulders (28-foot total pavement width)
•Reside within an approximately 50-foot-wide right-of-way easement on two properties, requiring 10.27 acres of roadway easement
This Public Hearing is being held in accordance with Chapter 26-Protection of Public Parks and Recreational Lands of the Parks and Wildlife Code because this project will result in impacts to approximately 1.04 acres of the Amistad National Recreation Area at two locations. The first area is a 2,800 linear foot segment of the existing right of way just east of the entrance into Amistad Acres. The second area is a crossing of Box Canyon drainage located approximately 4,150 feet south of the northern project terminus at Box Canyon Road.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 17, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
