Hey yall. I was wondering if anyone here uses these minnow traps and give your input? Magic Bait 32 oz. Minnow Trap and Insect Trap https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/magic-bait-32-oz-minnow-trap-and-insect-trap#repChildCatid=12006 H2O XPRESS™ 16-1/2" Minnow Trap https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress%E2%84%A2-16-1-2-minnow-trap#repChildCatid=3841416What do yall recommend for bait in a minnow trap? I can't use my cast-net, there's too much sunken timber in the muddy lower Brazos to get snagged on. I may be fishing the lower Brazos more often now for catfish (Channels & Blues). Normally, I would use dip bait (Catfish Charlie's or Hawg Wild), and would get decent size cats. But I want try to use live bait more often.

I've used this trap several times, and I used ,many different things, bread chips weinies. I just only catch small minnow type bait though. I've done really well on the upper Brazos with live bait, mostly perch types, for years though. If you can put anything you find in or near the river, assorted (legal) fish, frogs, snakes(yes snakes) whatever they may come up on while feeding, you may be surprised. Good luck-

Traps seem like the way to go. There’s some easy rules to follow on the TPWD site. Size is one thing and a gear tag is the other.

For minnows, a 1/4” mesh cast net is the best bet

I've used homemade floating rectangular pvc traps for years with very good results - over 100 minnows and small sunfish on some occasions - far better than I've done with commercial traps.
