One thing that I have observed over the last few years: It usually takes 2 days for all the rain in the Yegua watershed to reach Newman bottom. That seemed to be the case this last week. It rained on Thursday. On Friday the water was stained but the fishing was great. From the reports I read and people I talked to the water at Newman was muddy on Saturday. So that pretty much holds true to form. A friend of mine fished Newman on Sunday. He said the water was still muddy and flowing hard. But he did manage to catch 10. The good news is that people usually start catching fish again within a few days after the rains.

I participated as a fishing buddy in the Reel Recovery retreat this weekend so I didn't make it down to the Yegua. I fished below the dam on Saturday evening. I caught about 15 white bass but only 3 were decent keeper size. I fished The Steps on Sunday evening and caught 7. In both cases the fishing didn't turn on until sunset. The fish were spawning like crazy at the steps after the sun set.

Does anyone know if the creek rose from the recent rain and if so how much? Does anyone know what the bite have been like since the rain? I am thinking about going on Wednesday and am wondering if the bottom would be my best choice. The Irwin bridge could be a little crowded. because of spring break.

I fished this past weekend with a buddy between Irwin's and Newman's. We hauled out a 2 man limit. They're in there. We didn't have much size on our stringers compared to past trips but it was still a successful trip nonetheless. We caught them on 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz jig heads with a 3" white/chart grub.

Heath419 what color was the water? Muddy, murky, stained, any insight is always appreciated. Don't get me wrong, your post is almost enough to make me drive over there myself. A two man limit is awesome. And I also understand the issue with smaller fish. That seems to be the case no matter where I catch these fish today. The bigger fish were in there during the months of January and February.

I am seeing big females I just can't get them to bite where I'm fishing at today. I really can't complain though, I caught around 40 yesterday in two hour time frame. Catch and release of course, other wise I'm not sure a person can catch that many in two hours and put them on a stringer. But I have also smashed the barb on my hook and I can get fish off my hook in a matter of seconds once I have them in hand.

But any extra report on water condition is a plus for me as well as others, Thanks. Fishytx.. <////><

I'd say the water color was stained. It wasn't muddy nor was it clear. It was pretty cool to see all of them schooled together as we reeled them in in certain holes.

No I was not on the Yegua creek at all. I have been fishing the San Gabriel River that feed into Granger Lake over there by Taylor.. Everyone calls this place the steps. Very good flow of water and it is really clear, almost crystal clear. You can see bass swimming all over the place, it is crazy.

Thanks, just what I wanted to hear. Yes I know what you're talking about, reel one in and it will have several following it. That is always cool to see.

I went out to the main lake this afternoon to see if any bluegill had moved shallow yet. No signs of bluegill but there were thousands of shad along the bulkhead at Yegua Creek park. Good sign that the shad spawn is getting close.

The boat ramps at both Rocky Creek and Yegua Creek parks were closed for maintenance today.

I went to the bottom today. I got there around 8:30am and there were people with three to five fish on their stringer. The bite was pretty good for a while and then it begin to slow down. I had my limit by 1230pm. Most males and female were pretty well spent. Most fish were in the 11" to 12" range. The season is about to come to an end. What a season it has been.

How shallow do the bluegill get? Do you think a novice like me could get them on the fly rod? I need something high percentage to practice up on.
