I'm sure this horse had been beat to death, but...……. what length shaft? I'm getting different opinions on the 45 vs the 52. Its going on a 2002 ZX225. My current TM is a old school MG 109 hand control with a 45" shaft. I've only had it come out of the water a few times when fishing rough water and I don't particularly like fishing when the wind is blowing 25mph. I also don't want the head sticking way up and having it in the way or hanging over the side of the boat when stowed. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated before I spend $2500 and cut a hole in my deck for a footwell.

I have an '07 ZX225 and went with a 52". There are still times when in it comes out of the water, but I wouldn't want a 60. If you fish open water then 52" no doubt, if you stay shallow all the time then I am sure 45 is fine but I never feel like the 52 is too long.

Seems like most 45" are 24V and the 52"s are 36V. I'm sure you can get them however you want though.

We move a lot more 52" shaft but if your not fishing in 20 MPH wind in open water a 45" should be fine.. PM and I'll get you a better deal on the Ultrex.

I have a 2004 tzx 200 with an ultrex 36v 52 inch. The motor seems fine for all my applications. It doesnt really sit that deep in deeper water too me. My skeeter cover doesnt fit very well with the longer motor.

I’d get the 52” and if you need to go super shallow it is really easy to adjust the depth.

And flipping means that head is already in the way on my 45” Ultrex. I have a skeeter also and I’m VERY glad I didn’t buy more than I need.

I have a 45, they are actually a couple inches longer than the 4 trex, I have no problems with it on my Triton TRX21, it does sit flat on the water, some boats are nose up so a 52 may be better. Plus the 52 inch head unit hangs over the gunnel on most boats, not real fond of that.

Remember this MG and MK measure their shafts a different way. A 45" MG is different than a 45" MK. I know first hand. Almost a very expensive lesson to learn for me. Get the 52" and dont look back.

I just had a 45 installed today. And I’ll have to figure out something for the foot pedal well as the ultrex pedal won’t fit. Short of having the deck well enlarged which will involve fiberglass and carpet work I’m considering cutting a 2x10 to fit and getting used to having the pedal a couple of inches higher than I’d planned for. I just can’t tell the wife that I blew three grand plus and now need to drop another grand or a lot more into getting the front deck reworked.
