Can't seem to catch a break, I was replacing the motor on my MinnKota Maxxum last night and was making progress, I had the motor running and dammed if my steer cable didn't break. Money's tight right now and I'm trying to get ready for spring. Has anybody tried replacing these cables? Might have to scrap the whole thing and buy something used. Break Out Another Thousand right...?

Replaced the cables on my Maxxum without issue. Its not a difficult job. Give John at Jones Trolling Motor a call. He can supply you the parts and is very willing to instruct you on replacement procedure and will answer any questions you may have. Take photos as you are taking it apart so that you have them as a reference when installing the new cables. http://www.jonestrollingmotor.com/

Steering cables are less than $35.00/set. We keep them instock. We're open 8 to 5 central, Mon through Thursday and will be glad to help. John
