On Fork yesterday and I am idling across the lake west to east. Out of no where I see the below fish pop up on my graph. Under the cursor is a ball of bait. I'm in the middle of nowhere as you can see from lack of structure or cover on the lake bottom. What would you do? Are these bass? Should I spend the rest of the day trying to catch these fish?

After marking the spot, I hit a 180 and threw the most applicable baits I had out on deck. In this case a 1/2 jig and suspending jerkbait. After no bites and another scan of the area with no results, I decide chasing fish in open water was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my day.

They may be sandbass since they are in open water and unless you have panoptics that's going to be a low percentage game.

Drop a spoon on them and find out what they are.

I had the same thought but after a slow first half of the day it was worth a stop and cast.

Should I spend the rest of the day on them? Heck no......unless you were catching them all day. Not exactally a concentration whatever they are.

In all honesty, if there had been a bait ball near by I might consider a try, but open water with no signs of chasing bait and you are trying to force feed those things if you can put it on their nose.

Do like I usually do: Tell my partner to look at this, as we keep going looking for something else.
