Anyone have any experience using MInnKota Ultrex with Lowrance HDS 8 unit? Thinking about buying this set up but wanted some opinions first. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've run HPS units for years and love them! I also just ordered an Ultrex after being a Motorguide guy for over 20 years. Guys tell me its a killer combo.

the HDS8 is the only one that will not work well with the ULTREX. it loses bottom when you pull the troll motor out of the water. I had one, and had to upgrade to a HDS 9. I would have to turn the unit off then back on to get it to read the bottom again. its a royal PIA

My HDS7's do that occasionally; on the Totalscan transducer, but that's in the water all the time. It comes after a long run. Maybe I need to upgrade to the 9...

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

just stop sonar before you pull the trolling motor up, never have an issue.

My HDS 9T Gen 2 does this every once in awhile where i have to power off and on to read the bottom. Sometimes it just takes awhile to start reading again when deployed but most of the time it starts reading right off.

Put it in standby when you pull it out of the water. Works fine.

I use that exact setup. Works Great. Need an adapter cable to connector to transducer cable coming up from Trolling motor. DO not need to purchase the LINK option on the trolling motor unless you plan on switching to Hummingbird in the future. Saves $100. The LINK feature gives you the ability to select a Waypoint on the Depth finder and the if 1/4 mile the trolling motor will take you to that spot. However, you get the same features with the Remote FOB that comes with the unit. Read the operations manual closely. It stores up to 4 waypoints.

Love MIne

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback. Hopefully I can get all this installed and head to Falcon in a couple of weeks...
