My local Walmart has had full blown Christmas inventory displayed since 1 Oct. Every time I enter the Garden Center I have to walk through the "Rise of the Inflatables" singing a medley of Xmas songs.

No wonder a number of their employees seem to be suffering PTSD. freak

I love Christmas, any time of the year. This world needs more good tidings of great joy.

...wisdom!

Man a bunch of hum bugs up in here. I think I'm going to dress up as Santa for Halloween.

I hope you realize stores putting our Christmas merchandise this early had zero to do with good tidings of great joy and everything to do with marketing greed. To me the Christmas season starts the day after Thanksgiving. Anything more earlier cheapens the season.

^^THIS^^

I'm not particularly a fan of Christmas anyway. It's too commercialized. I hate feeling like I'm required to give everybody I know gifts to prove that I appreciate them. If I see something I want to give someone, I'm going to buy it right then and give it to them regardless of the date.

Give me Thanksgiving. I'd rather have the excuse to cook up a storm with folks I love and eat ourselves into a food coma.

Really? No, I didn't know that department stores were in the business of marketing and selling merchandise.
Thanks for the edification. IN65

All major holidays no longer hold their original meaning. Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, Holloween, Fourth of July, Memorial Day are just commercial extra sales days for retail business. Got to make that extra dollar so Xmas (can't call it Christmas at Walmart) is celebrated starting Oct 1st.

I'm old. I remember when Christmas didn't hit the stores until the day after Thanksgiving. The true meaning of the holidays is lost. Christmas is for decorating your house with lights, reindeer, Santa Claus, and Frosty. It is for gift giving while the the most Precious Gift of all is lost among the commercials and sales.

I like it. It makes me think of Christmas Jesus a lot. Christmas baby Jesus is my favorite Jesus.

From a grumpy old man's perspective. I still see houses decorated, trees all light up, kids excited about the holiday and gifts, family getting together to over eat. Just cause your Christmas sucks, doesn't mean everyone else's does.

yep, and in Walmart's mind pool maintenance ends. Really ticks me off that I can't make one stop any more. Probably better margins in the Xmas stuff. I wait for the clearance sales at end of December to buy that stuff.

Reminds me of the fond, warm memories of Christmas.
Back To School sales in June not so much.
