My local Walmart has had full blown Christmas inventory displayed since 1 Oct. Every time I enter the Garden Center I have to walk through the "Rise of the Inflatables" singing a medley of Xmas songs.

No wonder a number of their employees seem to be suffering PTSD. freak

I love Christmas, any time of the year. This world needs more good tidings of great joy.

I hope you realize stores putting our Christmas merchandise this early had zero to do with good tidings of great joy and everything to do with marketing greed. To me the Christmas season starts the day after Thanksgiving. Anything more earlier cheapens the season.

^^THIS^^

I'm not particularly a fan of Christmas anyway. It's too commercialized. I hate feeling like I'm required to give everybody I know gifts to prove that I appreciate them. If I see something I want to give someone, I'm going to buy it right then and give it to them regardless of the date.

Give me Thanksgiving. I'd rather have the excuse to cook up a storm with folks I love and eat ourselves into a food coma.

Really? No, I didn't know that department stores were in the business of marketing and selling merchandise.
Thanks for the edification. IN65

All major holidays no longer hold their original meaning. Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, Holloween, Fourth of July, Memorial Day are just commercial extra sales days for retail business. Got to make that extra dollar so Xmas (can't call it Christmas at Walmart) is celebrated starting Oct 1st.

I'm old. I remember when Christmas didn't hit the stores until the day after Thanksgiving. The true meaning of the holidays is lost. Christmas is for decorating your house with lights, reindeer, Santa Claus, and Frosty. It is for gift giving while the the most Precious Gift of all is lost among the commercials and sales.

From a grumpy old man's perspective. I still see houses decorated, trees all light up, kids excited about the holiday and gifts, family getting together to over eat. Just cause your Christmas sucks, doesn't mean everyone else's does.

yep, and in Walmart's mind pool maintenance ends. Really ticks me off that I can't make one stop any more. Probably better margins in the Xmas stuff. I wait for the clearance sales at end of December to buy that stuff.

Back To School sales in June not so much.

Where the hell do you get off saying my Christmas sucks?
If you could comprehend what you read you would see that the comment was about the commercialisation of Christmas and all the other hollidays. Not one word was mentioned that pertained to my personnel Christmas except that to mention that Christmas used to start after Thanksbiving.

You are one on the reasons I find the OT less and less of a good place to be. You just like to attack. I hope everyone can see just what you are.

They only lose their original meaning if you allow it to happen, who care what stores do? Make the holidays what you want it to be and let the rest do their own thing.

I saw a Christmas tree and light sale in July this year (not at Walmart, at Big Lots)

I do like the Christmas music they play at the store: much better than what they usually play at Wmart

Not to mention, OK I'll mention it,
After Christmas sales. I mean, come on, Christmas is over already, but they advertise all the discounts and get there and nothing is really discounted.

Grandpa seriuosly you take that as a personal attack? I could make an attack over so many other things like your punctuation and the fact that it takes a lot of effort at times to even understand what the hell you posted! So when you were 9 Christmas was special, but after that everyone elses Christmas is spoiled by commercialism? People younger than you dont understand what holidays are about? Im no spring chicken myself and commercialization has been the norm since I was a young kid. Even to this day, I like going to the toy sections of stores to see what this years big toy is for sale this year (my kids are grown, I dont buy toys). So anyone younger than you can never enjoy what it was like at Christmas when you were 9? (The good ole days none of us will ever know?). Just because the stores are now setting up Christmas displays before Halloween...now it it has ruined the whole spirit of the holidays? Sure companies try to sell stuff to make money. These same companies employ people with families that buy gifts for thier children. I use to work retail and it was actually fun as an employee to prepare for Christmas. I have offered to make you a custom slingshot for you to try as a hobby...nope, you did that years ago and it sucks and you dont want to do it again! This forum bought you a fricking car...only for it to p1ss you off when it broke down and you left it in a Walmart parking lot!! Grandpa you really need to not look at life as if humanity is just a big burden on your life. I assume most of your social interaction is on this forum...good luck buddy!

Well, most bible scholars agree that Christ was born in the late Summer or early Fall, so starting on October 1st is probably about right to start celebrating Crist's birth, aka Christmas.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Hobby Lobby was putting their Christmas stuff out before Labor Day - even before they started putting the Halloween stuff out.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.
