Mid Rats in the Chiefs Mess on the 3 Aircraft Carriers I served on were always your choice full breakfast or regular meal always hot and fresh. It didn't get any better than that. On the 2 LST's and the AOE they did not have the full menu but even the Marines were glad to get back aboard and stand in line(it's what they did best) for a hot meal they were still better than eating out of a can on the ground. GO NAVY!

midnight chow on an air farce base was the way to go, when lucky enough to be on one.....as for the Army mess halls....well, you were usually better off getting a few boiled eggs and some bacon...lol

I was only authorized to eat at dining halls once a quarter...just a check on how the troops are treated kind of deal.

We were collocated with a large Navy base. I had always heard how great the food was in the Navy, but our facility fed many sailors.

Food was good generally...and they did not prepare anything special for us. Ate a number of Holiday dinners there. Always enjoyed it.

I still have a couple p-38s. Come in handy from time to time.

Midnight chow yum. That was one benefit of working off shifts, that and no brass around. I do miss the food from the Hospital mess halls. We had the best food on base.

I was at Ft Sam in an Antonio in 67-68, the hospital food for us working in hospital was great, not so much for the patients we had. Especially the COLD COLD milk

Utmost respect to those of you who served in any branch.

That's just not the path I took, and I sometimes have regrets or "wishes" that I had.
My son is a former Marine, and I enjoy hearing his adventures, if I can call them that.
