Just be upfront and honest about it. Look them in the eye and definitely have a resignation letter to cover you on the HR end.

Always have a letter of resignation, but go to them in person, first, and explain your position. Then, hand off the letter. Just a formality in today's respectful working world..... ^^^This

Yep, theyre probably going to let you go anyways. Yes they will mostly let you going in todays world. The old days of giving a full 8 hours every day, they wanted the two weeks to get someone else, today they have to worry if you will show or what damage someone will do so they usually just let you go.

Need to check your hiring packet. You might have signed a piece of paper advising how it is to be done. I know HR departments that pull it out and use it to jack you final pay around.

Make sure you set a firm date. I have a guy in my office who gave his 2-week notice 2 months ago. Got another girl in the office who gave her notice 3 years ago. We call them "standing" 2-week notices.

This is the best way. I have always done it this way. In addition, I have always had my boss sign a copy as well to send to HR just in case the boss decided to be a jerk and let me go early.

In college I used all of my sick and vacation days before I quit a job...then I learned I would have been paid for them anyway.
I didn't like the company (they lied to me about several things), so I walked in the day after I exhausted all of my leave and handed them a letter that simply said this is my two weeks notice, and signed it. Told them I would be taking to weeks of unpaid leave and left.
But if you like the people, then the above advice is solid.
Bringing them a box of tissues and a carton of blue bell could be a humorous way to soften the blow.

I guess Ive never worked in one of these old line, mature industries because we never did any of this stuff like two weeks notice or letter of resignation. Who cares about stuff.
Like a bad marriage, when its over, its over, just go
Anybody who has announced theyve resigned can become very toxic to the group they are in. Its human nature. Their mind is on their next position and they forever want to chat up what a great organization they are going to.
I once resigned by pulling my manager out of a meeting and as we were standing in a hallway with people walking by, I told him I was leaving. He asked me if there was anything he could do to change my mind and I said no. We had a polite conversation, he wished me good luck and that was it. I had worked there for 11 years and had a lot invested in that company and vice versa. It wasnt a decision I took lightly

If I was going to leave a job, how I felt about where I was working would dictate how I let them know.
If you work for someone that treats you fairly, then they deserve a 2-week notice. Most of the people that you do that to, will respect your decision, wish you well and find someone to replace you. Even then, it's best to be prepared for them to let you go early. Having the ability to take two weeks off without pay is a nice back-up plan to have.
In the past 10 years, I have had two jobs that I simply packed up my stuff and walked out. The head honcho didn't deserve a notice from me. The next people I worked for were told that I did it and why.
It has always amazed me how nave some bosses can be. I have worked for companies that have scooped good workers from other companies and never thought a thing about it. Then, as soon a whiff gets out that someone is leaving, they come unglued.
If you find a better job than the one you have now, go for it. The ability to stay with one company for a long period of time is almost impossible. Even if you want to. Company buy-outs, mergers, and "we're going in a different direction" is today's norm. There are no more gold watches and company vestment. It's all about the companies need and your needs.

Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.
