Most restaurants do. Trying to make 50 lbs of mashed potatoes would take someone half a day to peel, cook and mash. Something restaurants don't wait to spend that much time and money on. Not true There are all manner of potato peeling machines that will make short work of the peeling process Ive used them Key word is "Most". After 40 years cooking in restaurants (20+ restaurants), only place they had a potato peeling machines was in the Navy.

5lb bag of red potatoes is $3.50. Wash, chop, boil, drain, mash. Takes about 15 minutes.

I'll time it for you. Couple of minutes to wash and chop 4 or 5 of potatoes. 10 minutes to boil. Couple of minutes to mash and add stuff. Not sure how it's hard to believe one could mash potatoes in about 15 minutes. Maybe 20.

Ive always wondered if the mashed potatoes they serve at Kentucky Fried Chicken were instant because they have a strange consistency They were during the three high school summers I worked at KFC. And the barbecued chicken was the previous day's leftover fried chicken, deboned and tossed with barbecue sauce.

I just pour on more gravy and pretend they are real.

KFC mashed potatoes are delicious, instant or not. I hate to admit it, but they were the last time I ate there....always my favorite, and I'm sure they are instant....I'm guessing the sodium is off the charts, too.

Hell, I dont even wash them before I boil them. Cant afford to go losing all the trace minerals. Plus the skin is delicious in mashed potatoes.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

Yesm But to this day, give some me KFC Original, mashed potatoes, and Im channeling Oldfrog here, and two sides of cole slaw and Ill dose the slaw with powdered ginger when I get home
