Ill be moving to East Texas shortly and will have around 9 acres to mow that arent forested. Im thinking I would like to have a front loader, 4wd, brush hog, drive on finishing mower, backhoe and augur setup. Anyone familiar with this setup please comment. Tractors seem to be the same as the ford I grew up driving but have also changed a lot. My lot is mostly level ground except the hill the house was built on. Ill eventually have up to 6 horses when I get the fencing in.

Realistically it would be two full size horses and a miniature for the first 5 years.

Mow 9 acres with a brush hog, then mow the same 9 acres with a good Zero turn mower and I promise you, you will have cut your mowing time in half. So I hate to tell you this, get both.

Seems like a lot of money for a small amount of land. You're looking at a minimum of 20 grand for the tractor and add-ons.

For that size of place, I would rent or buy a gas auger for corner posts. Do you really need both brushhog and finish mower?

Unfortunately yes. Thats a great idea about renting the augur. Only need it when you need it.

You want the little Kubota BX. I bought a used BX23 (2003) in 2010. 300 hours on it, it had been used by Grande Communications and looked sorta beat up but regularly maintained. I got a good price, about $8k, while new was going for $20k. It didn't have the drive on mower, but I couldn't use that function anyway. I bought a thumb for the backhoe for picking up rocks and logs. Used bushhog, new rock rake and a new box blade for about $1k. Got the dealer to throw in the three point hitch kit for free.
