El Gato should be able to fill in the info on these, as he is always talking about them.

Water bugs suck....I use Extreme Tracker boards and Zakks big cat boards. They are very similar but the extremes are cheaper. Caught close to 50 eaters yesterday and 90% came off the 2 boards. I dont know why cats like hitting the boards so much but most days they catch more fish and some days they catch all the fish.

My guess it's further away from the boat. The boat displaces a lot of water, and the fish know some big is hovering over head.

I caught 4 on my vertical rod so go figure. I run 4 different rigs when drifting and blues will usually prefer a certain rig over the rest on any given day. More often than not, the planer rigs outperform the rest. I was fishing in 26 ft and never have had an issue with spooking fish that are that deep. I believe the planer board presents the bait a lot smoother but its just my guess Damon. Getting it away from the boat certainly doesnt hurt either.

I see smoother: presentation, not as much bouncing and bobbing with the boat moving around. That makes sense. Who knows?

We were talking to Jackie Kennedy about the outside rods getting more bites a while back. His theory was , the sent trail fans out as you move and maybe the outside rods are the first bait the come to. Sounds logical , seems to be the majority comes on outside rods with or with out planer board.

I use the extreme tracker and it does a very good job and has good clips. They are a good tool to use at times and my only drawback is that I fish a shallow lake and if one gets hung up then I have to either break it off and go get it later or reel in all my lines to go retrieve it. Doesnt hurt to have some in the boat though.

Have a question for when a planer board is on and you catch a fish does the board just slide down the line and stop at the leader swivel. I watch videos and see you clip the planer to the line so was just wondering how they work with fish on

Reel in the fish and unclip the tension clip when the board gets in reach. The board is still attached by a stainless snap that allows the board to slide down the line and finish reeling in the fish with the board still attached. The tension clips can be adjusted so that they break away when a fish is on but I have found this to be a pain in the ace cuz the boards come Unclipped while deployed and no fish on.

Thanks Gato seems that could be a pain with a big fish on by yourself but sure you get the hang of it with some use

You get the hang of it real quick. Landing a big fish solo is always an orchestra of chaos no matter if its on a planer board or not. I thought i would loose some fish while uncliping the board but hasnt been an issue and I been running the boards for almost 3 yrs. They arent for everyone and do require a bit more effort. At the end of the day its just another tool to help catch fish. Theres a million ways to skin a cat.
