Looks like there is an early start to this years migration. In the last few days I have noticed at least 12 or more around my feeders, which is up from 4 to 6 last week.

Seems awfully early . I figured it was just a combination of the young fledging (parents have more free time) and the drought affecting flowers .
Good thing I'm stocked up on sugar .

Ive had one aggressive hummer that protects the feeder and drinks a lot of it. Its crazy watching it chase all the others off.

Last year the migration was really getting going by mid August. The birds that I am seeing now look to be mature males. They generally lead the way during the migration.

I have resident birds throughout the late spring and summer. Usually about 6. In August to the end of September I have 6-8 feeders going and have upwards of 50 birds hanging around. Then about the 1st week of October all of them head South.

I havent seen increased activity up here. Pretty slow in fact.
Im having something empty my feeder overnight. Im blaming the raccoons until I find something else.

Do they hang around in larger cities down there?
It seems up here you rarely see them in the cities on the flatland but just 10 miles away in the foothills theyre all over the place.
