Hey guys, my ponds at home fill up with moss and weeds really bad this time of the year and i was wanting to try to get rid of some (not all) of it. Any suggestions for something that won’t hurt the fish in the process?

I've used Cutrine and reward in the past. I believe one is for surface grass and the other is for the submerged growth. Research that and don't spray all of your pond at once. I did mine in thirds so the decomposing vegetation didn't deplete all of the oxygen. Also talk to your Tx Agrilife county agent

I have used the blue dye and had some success. It just blocks certain uv rays needed for plant growth, and greatly reduces the amount of vegetation. As long as you don't get a huge rain and it all washes around, it seems to work. It works best if you get it in the tank early enough in the spring to keep the stuff from getting started. Once the vegetation is there, copper sulfate works pretty good.

Just spray the surrounding pastures with Grazon, you will never have aquatic plants again, trust me.
Which is not a good thing.

If you're looking for a more natural method, look into getting a grass carp permit and stock as many as you need based upon the size of your pond. They'll be sterile and won't reproduce, so you'll have to restock every 10ish years after they die, but you won't be using things that can potentially harm your fish. Plus, you can catch them and they get big!

Grass carp will help with certain weeds. However, they are very selective and will not touch "moss" aka filamentous algae.
Mozambique Tilapia love "moss" and will control it in your ponds. Added benefits are 1) terrific forage production for LMB 2) pressure relief for the bluegills in ponds and 3) a great source of angling fun and food.
I've used them in my ponds successfully for decades...in fact just stocked mine for the season a couple of weeks ago.

My grandad would take a long chain. Hook one end to tractor then wade around the and wrap chain around and then hook other up to tractor and pull it out in a big pile. Then let dry on land then burn it. Really pretty easy and worked great.
