Interesting protocols in place. Our hospital is 100 miles from there and our trauma surgeon got the call while in our unit rounding as to what our capacity would be if it was a mass casualty.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Santa Fe used to be a trailer house community and poor. Has it gotten any better?

In this world we live in, its doesn't matter where it is. Crazy people come from all over.

absolutely terrible my heart goes out to the folks in Texas and prayers.
I rember we used to go to high school ( open campus ) and hang our shot guns and rifles in the windows of our pick up Trucks....we never heard of a school shooting.....something has happened to create a lot more un-stable people in the world...
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

What has happened to us? Freaking pitiful. everybody hates everyone, thats what happened. The worst part is we also justify our hatred with the internet. Just read a story about a trans person being followed into a restroom by a politician and confronted. The comments were eye opening and not what I expected, just all hate against someone just trying to live their life the only way they know how. Poor person was just in a stall using the restroom and minding their own business.

WTF is wrong with people nowadays? Maybe if they started holding the parents accountable for the actions of their out of control hateful kids some of this would stop.

Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

WTF is wrong with people nowadays? Maybe if they started holding the parents accountable for the actions of their out of control hateful kids some of this would stop. Sadly, schools dont hold kids accountable any more. Kids do what they want to do with rare consequences if any. And its all to appease the parents. The school doesnt want parents complaining. Sad but true.

WTF is wrong with people nowadays? Maybe if they started holding the parents accountable for the actions of their out of control hateful kids some of this would stop. We need to stop raising kids that are wusses and cant handle disappointments or disagreements. My Generation, Generation X( fixing to be 44) Has raised a bunch of titty babies. These kids their whole life have been coddled and catered to, been told they are the best even when they suck, give them participation trophies for losing. What we are seeing is the end results. These kids don't know how to handle rejection and failure. They've forgotten how to communicate due to social Media. They don't handle their insecurities. Bottom-line my Generation, Generation X, has failed overall, when it comes to raising kids.

Lets keep this one on track please. Will be plenty of time later to assign political/generational blame or throw out our ideas on a solution. Lets keep this post for prayers, updates and information.

I've come around to more armed officers in schools. I guess every school should have at least one. Maybe it's a teacher in some of the smaller schools. I'm also supportive of raising the age for the purchase of any semi-automatic weapon to 21.
I also recognize those two solutions would not completely solve the problem. It's a cultural issue at this point.
Very sad to hear this; again.

we used to go to high school ( open campus ) and hang our shot guns and rifles in the windows of our pick up Trucks....we never heard of a school shooting.....something has happened to create a lot more un-stable people in the world... yeah i went to a HS in OK that was pretty rural, every truck had 1 or more guns in the window rack. we had rifles everywhere we went, nobody got shot. except a buddy of mine who caught a .22 ricochet off a pond dam in a freak accident when we was plinking turtles. something has changed in our society in a big way, and its not just proliferation of guns, there were lots of guns at schools all across the country but this type of deal just didn't happen. i don't have the answer, and i wonder if we truly understand the real root of the problem.

Reports are he used a shotgun. How does one walk from the parking lot into the school and around the school with a long gun of some sort without being noticed before they start shooting. I can see sneaking in a handgun, but how does this happen over and over with a long gun?

I can see sneaking in a handgun, but how does this happen over and over with a long gun? Easy enough to sneak in a shotgun in depending on the type. Simply remove the barrel, strap the barrel and stock to your back under your clothes, then reassemble in a bathroom stall. But most of the time, they simply walk in with the gun between periods when most teachers/kids are in class focusing on school work.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

We had a presenter come to our school and pulled out over 100 weapons had hidden in his clothing, including a shot gun and a rifle. If you have baggy enough clothes you would be surprised. I couldn't believe he had that much stuff on him and we had no idea. This is why many districts have dress codes against baggy clothing.

Now 10 dead and actively searching for 2nd suspect. Terrible. Harris CO Sheriff just said it's 8-10 dead. They have one in custody and another detained. The report I watched made it sound like they were actively searching for someone else they hadn't found, I may have heard it wrong but the way she said it caught my attention.

[quote=texasbass1]WTF is wrong with people nowadays? I believe this is the biggest part of the problem.

There is no excuse for not having an armed guard and metal detectors at every campus. We can afford multi-million dollar football stadiums, but we can't keep kids safe?

Here are the latest details.
9 Dead. The dead are students and adults. 18 injured Shooter in custody, another student being detained. Shooter was armed with a black, semi-auto rifle (AR-15) is what I'm sure the media will report, a shotgun, a handgun and pipe bombs. Explosives were found on and around campus. School Resource Officer was a recently retired HPD Detective. He was shot in the upper arm near the chest. He is currently in critical condition and in surgery. The fire alarm was pulled by another student (not the shooter) after the shooting began. She was trying to alert everyone and probably helped to save some lives.
My heartfelt prayers to everyone affected by this tragedy.

this is not a one problem solution. I believe it started when we took God out of everything. WE said God we don't need you and being a God who listen's did just that. Back in the day more people went to church. Now more people are watching their kids play sports or doing something else than to go church. Kids playing computer and not going outside. Back in the day when we got into a fight we settled it with our fist not guns. Their are more and I could go on. One more thing this is Satan's play ground. We are here for a short time. One day Satan will get his.
PRAYING for all those kids and parents.

No child wants to feel alone. Some feel that way because they are that alone. Bullying continues all the way through life. Getting to these kids before they get to this point to be heard is key. Problem is these type of people are so isolated they easily go unnoticed in our current system. Im very glad this kid was taken alive. He will be studied and we will learn a lot about how to stop this I hope.

I was just in the THF and apparently the politics behind this story is too much for their sensitive ears but 8 kids getting murdered at school isn't.

I believe it is part of the problem, I also believe that kids that are bullied and picked on cannot escape the torment like we could as kids. Social media and all of the various ways to have instant contact with people has made it where a kid that is troubled has no outlet or safe place to regroup an face tomorrow with a few hours of peace. Add in all the first person video games and saturation of events by the news media and you have a recipe for tragedy. There isn't a single problem, some will point at guns, some will point at mental health, some electronics, some at the parents or school or lack of influence by a role model. It isn't one thing but a combination of many things.

The shooters name (I will not mention) has been public for only a matter of minutes. Someone has already created a fake facebook page with a picture of a guy wearing a Hillary hat. Unreal how polarized our society has come.

We need to make the shooter more famous ... Keep posting We do need to make him more famous - in fact, we need to make an - no THE - example for what happens when you do - or even think about doing - something like this. Unfortunately it won't happen because not only kids, but society as a whole is comprised of a bunch of wusses!

The shooters name (I will not mention) has been public for only a matter of minutes. Someone has already created a fake facebook page with a picture of a guy wearing a Hillary hat. Unreal how polarized our society has come. Dimitri Pagourtzis.....Hwy 6 is blocked off as he lives just of the road. Explosives may be in the house. I live near the school and it's a mess down here. Prayers up for the deceased and swift healing for the 13 wounded. Please don't make this situation a political meley.

All kinds of warning signs from this kid. 17 years old and he had posted pictures of guns on social media. A picture of a shirt with the words "born to kill." He wore trench coats to school every day. He also posted pictures of a variety of symbols of religious, political, and military meaning. Hammer and sickle. Rising sun. Baphomet. Cthulhu. Iron cross. Pretty clear his parents owned a pile of guns as well.
As a parent how could you not know and be concerned your kid was posting that kind of stuff? Are they naive or complicit?

It feels like a bad dream. What the hell is wrong with our world today? I have friends and family in that area.

If his facebook page really showed all that's being reported then his parents had to be completely ignorant of their child's life and his problems or they did know and are just ignorant.

anyone else see that clown that showed up carrying the American flag with a pistol on his hip out in the open. How anyone would think it's a good idea to show up to a shooting scene open carrying a pistol on their hip baffles me.

I think all the 2nd amendment guys need to run down to all the shootings right when they happen like this guy with their pistols and AR-15's and express their rights.

They didn't go on to kill anyone. The means to get revenge is easier to obtain today and is inflamed by social media.

Thought someone posted he was a football player. Which Ill never understand, when an athlete does something wrong its always reported he was a football player. Had it been a flute player, dopehead or biggest turd in the school the headlines never read , Flute player was the shooter or the biggest turd in the school was the shooter. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Can't even imagine what the kids, families and community are feeling or going through right now. Just pray in time they are comforted somehow. Going to be along week or so for that community. Prayers for Santa Fe

Playing freshman and JV football and I mentioned earlier that Santa Fe was a trailer park town, police were searching his trailer house. Seems he was of a Greek heritage.

They didn't go on to kill anyone. The means to get revenge is easier to obtain today and is inflamed by social media. Wisdom. I was raised by a single mom and moved 17 times in 12 years until I got out of high school. I was the perpetual "new kid". I had good kids, coaches, and educators who reached out to me. I had to deal with a lot of bullies. Teach your kids to recognize a kid in trouble and try to help them. That is a start.

My solution: Get rid of all those gun free signs. Put up signs that say school staff is armed (even if they are not). Allow all those that work in the schools and are qualified both with a weapon and psychologically to carry. I did not say force now did I.
Let those that would harm our kids know that they will be stopped, even if we have to kill them to stop them.

p.s., I fully support fish4bass' idea, too. At a minimum... If your kid reached out and tried to help. Instead of picking on them. They may not shoot them. It is a sad deal. So glad both of mine are out of college. These kids that do this are lost and void of an adult in their life. They are weak and not a victim. But they are out there. I hope this DB fries. DB move.
