Unless they are going to give me a 1st place ribbon that I can put on my refrigerator, I don't give a sh*t. LOL
But seriously, when did fishing become such a heated topic? It is approaching the level of conversational risk as is race, religion and politics. Stop complicating a simple and relaxing pastime with worries about what others are doing if it doesn't affect you.
Do we get that bent out of shape when a pro sets a hook on a 2 pounder and screams out "biggun'..? It is just not that big a deal in the scheme of life...

How about calling an "8 Pounder" a actual 7pounder held it at arms reach?

The new program was put in place to increase the availability of data. When, where, and how 8lb+ fish are caught. More data, that's it. Not to appease millennial, or snowflakes, or whatever derogatory term you want to use... When you limit data collection to 13+lb fish you get very little data. 600 or so data points since the inception of the program. Asking people to report on 8lbers will jump the number of data point into the many thousands the first year alone. That information will eventually benefit all fishermen.
I do agree the program could do itself a favor though by simply renaming those fish in the 8-12.99lb weight class. It could be as simple as calling it a lunker vs. a sharelunker.

I once fished a tournament where I caught 30 sharelunkers in one day (true story)... will they accept that?

My issue with the new redesigned program is this. When you catch and donate a REAL Sharelunker, you are sharing your catch and her offspring with everyone in the State. When you catch that 8lber. you're sharing nothing. As for data points, that information has been available at several Lake Fork Marinas and at Toledo Bend for years. I believe TPWD is hoping that increased participation from those would not otherwise be recognized, may improve the chances of taking in more 13+ fish from the guys who are participating in the new program, should they ever catch one.

I look forward to the day when I have so little to worry about that I feel the need to petition to change what someone calls an 8 to 12.99 pound bass. This X 1,000,000,000....Seriously who gives a sh**??? I've never seen so much made out of nothing. Some of you people need to get a life.

I remember back around 2008 when I was doing reports and stuff for Lake Fork Marina there was a log book for fish over 7 lbs we used to fill out. That data went to TPWD. Wonder why they quit doing that? Same thing with no labels. The offspring has always been way more valuable than data.

I already do call an 8lb bass a lunker...all by myself!
