As far as the 250 Pro XS, I think that is still current. The motors Mercury has come out with are the new 150 Pro XS has changed from a 2 stroke 2.5 to a four stroke 3.0. The same as the Mercury 150 four stroke except that the new Pro XS version has 6 more horsepower.
Also new motors Mercury has announced are all 3.4L V6 motors from 175 to 225hp. The 175, 200 and 225 Pro XS have all been discontinued. The 250 and 300 Pro XS are still current. These motors are the ones that will be available starting in May. Mercury revealed these at the Miami boat show a couple weeks ago.

What I read just yesterday was that Mercury has had some outdoor riders out showing them the new V8's which are 4.5 and 4.8L engines rumored to be between 300 and 450 horsepower. Also Mercury has told some dealers they will not release any of these motors till next year. The Verado's are going away too, it appears. The guess I heard as to their demise was that they were a 2 star CARB motor and they were due to go out anyway.

Rumors but they are pretty good at guessing.

Although I've never been a fan of Etecs given the issues with the Pro XS'S over the last few yrs and not wanting to touch their new motors for the first several years and Etecs 10 yr warranty.....I might have to consider them seriously.

Hey Ally1,

I'm confused, are not the new 115 and 150 4 strokes called pro XS?

Yes, the 115 and 150 Pro XS are new four strokes. The 115 has been out awhile and they just recently changed the 150 Pro XS from a 2.5 two stroke to a four stroke.

I read threads about these new motors on TheHullTruth. They seemed to know about the new 3.4 ahead of time and they are now talking about the new Merc V8s. Go to the boating forum and look for Mercury V8.

Not really sure I underdstand their marketing, the smaller engines are now pro XS, the new bigger 4 strokes aren't named anything and are just black, and these new V8 250+ will they have a badge or not?, and then you have the old 4 stroke vrods. Its almost like these different engines are coming form different division/manufacturers and just branded merc.

This has got to be one of the silliest trolling threads ever. Yes, I'm sure the 250 Pro XS is going away as we know it. There will be a new one, and it may be a v6, or v8, likely will be a 4 stroke. But Mercury will certainly continue to support the current platform, with warranty and repairs. For as long as there are warranties existing, and likely well afterwards. He77, we can still get parts for our 99 225 EFI, and it's almost 20 years old, and has been out of production for over 16. To think that because they are no longer offered that parts and warranty will be an issue is silly. Bet I can get Taurus parts from Ford. Or Trailblazer parts from Chevy.

Verados are going away as well, from the rumors circulating.

A couple merc gurus on BBC have been saying if you want a 2 stroke, you better buy it now for a couple weeks now. There are guys who know the exact details, but apparently they arent allowed to give all the details yet.
