I'm just glad humminbird will at least work on and repair these units. I had a 2 month old Lawrence HDS 9 that the card reader stopped working in. Lowrance does NOT repair defective units for customers, they will send you a refurbished unit though. The one I sent them was in perfect condition. The referb unit I received was not as clean and new looking as what I had to send in. I was not happy about that at all. So when the time came to upgrade... i didn't even look to lowrance. But that's just my experience and the choice I decided to make.

Yeah if they won't fix it I'd fill it full of epoxy or silicone and call it done. The only one looking at it would be me, but if it just got hot and popped they should cover it.

Question --

Was the unit in the condition shown in the pics when you took it out
of the box when you bought it ?

How is "somehow got damaged" Humminbird's fault ?

.

it is a foot print, I throw the cover under my console to keep it from getting in the way or blowing away when fishing. Its a hardy piece of rubber, don't think it will hurt it.

I think you are misunderstanding my post, I'm not trying to get anything for free. I want it fixed, in fact it was mailed to the repair center 2 days ago and won't be delivered till next week. I'm angry at the outrageous repair fee for something I could do my self for the cost of parts. If they would of given fair quote for repair like under $120 I wouldn't even be mad. I know they need to make money, but hundreds of dollars on a simple repair is outright highway robbery/price gouging and bad business.

They havent even gotten it yet. Relax & see what they say. If its still under warranty & If its physical damage, they DONT have to cover it for free, BUT, I HAVE heard sometimes they WILL send a new unit out. Again, they dont HAVE to, but sometimes they will. You'll get more with sugar than you will with vinegar. Hopefully youll be one that lucks out when they just do it out of GRACE. I wish you good luck on the outcome. Especially if it WAS a Roadrunner jig that did it.

Something tells me (and Humminbird isn't following this thread, nor do they act on impulse) that you will have a completely different end result than what you are upset about. 2cents
I understand your frustration going off of what you have read and have been told. It is protocol and in most cases, it turns out better in the end. Give it a few days and you will receive that email telling you that your unit is headed back to you with a total for the repair.
The thing with Humminbird, you will receive back the very unit you sent in. And yes they will go through the entire unit while it is on the bench to make sure all is well and that nothing else is going on to ensure that you are getting back a unit that is ready for the water.
Things happen, and when they do they need fixin...With Humminbird, you are in good hands.

Yes cause that would be an upgrade over plastic. Aluminum or titanium would be even better. Just saying I could of bought a 3d printer and some plastic for a little bit more and made my own.

Whats worse, you could have bought one of the ultra cool Salmon/Steelhead G-rods, instead...I had a 998 go out a couple months ago...got on the trading forum and found a replacement for about the same price as the repair would have cost...plus, got the transducer and GPS puck as well. And I got it on the water faster...Sadly, most warranties arent worth the time they waste on writing/printing them. And the repair costs are outrageous, to me, as well.

Well, just got an email from the repair center. Its fixed and has already been shipped.

I will give humminbird props for super fast turn around, But I still think the cost was way too much for that amount of plastic.

Hell I just replaced my upper dash in my old 99 dodge ram. Brand new Dash was about 6-7lbs of plastic, over 2 feet wide and over 4ft long. The dash was still cheaper!

at least hbird repaired it if it was lowrance an out of warranty you would have had a new door stop.

An entire company shouldn't be judged by one employee. Not sure which brand you'll buy as I've heard bad things about the others also.

This was me. I had a Helix 10 SI Gen 1 that quit while under warranty, no physical damage. It did get rained on the previous trip and due to water in the cover it appeared to have a bad seal. First problem I have had with a Humminbird after owning them for over 10 years and having been through 6-7 older units and now 3 Helix 10's.

After reading through this thread I am really struggling with how damage like you show could be the fault of the manufacturer. You heard a pop, see plastic flying, and then are not sure if your bait hit the unit or not?

Glad to hear you got it repaired. I am sure there are people who would gladly take it off you hands if you decide to make a change.
