If you are talking about moving to a whole new career doing something totally different with the same pay, benefits, etc....then absolutely YES. I could use a change after doing this for 26 years. If you are talking about doing the same thing just somewhere different, then No, I ma happy where I am at and I am 10 years from retirement (I Hope).

Mark , you can ask a question without giving your own response ha
And yes the fire service has changed , seems it doesn't have the same feel it used to I'm not going anywhere soon. Gonna do my 20 and get out which is a few years away. One thing is for certain though, what I do after I retire will not involve fire or EMS service. My plan is to never step foot in a fire station again after I retire. Love what I do but when this chapter is over it's over.

No way. I've been doing this for couple decades and don't have any problem getting up in the morning to go to work. I'll be leaving it for retirement soon enough as it is.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Mark and all of you fire and EMS guys. my hats off to you. I don't know how you guys do it but thanks to everyone of you for the services you provide. Now to your question I was down sized after 28 years with the power company. Officially I retired but when they tell you they are doing away with your job it damn sure wasn't voluntary retirement. Then came the fun part the company figured out they didn't have anyone to do what I was doing so they hired me back as a contractor but I added a few stipulations. First if I didn't want to do the job I didn't do it. Second I went from making $32 an hour to making $55 and hour.(I had their nuts in a vise) In short I went from working 60 t0 70 hours a week with no overtime pay because I was a salaried employee to be my own boss as a contractor getting paid for every minute I was on the job. So don't be afraid to make a change and especially don't be afraid to ask for the moon because you just might get it.

All things being equal but would you leave your job/profession if you could if money benefits etc were at least equal? Yes.

Im looking at leaving my current job and taking a 60% cut in pay. Less stress, more free time, less stress, no hour commute each way, less stress
