Ran the same pattern that has produce reasonably well the last couple trips out in the last week. One bite today, however. It was around the same time and in the same area that the better bites came on the previous days. The only difference today compared to the other days was the overnight high pressure and cold temps - 38 degrees this morning. Which of you put a lot of stock into that being the variable that made the difference? Just out of curiosity...
If you can't find em wind em.

I haven't figured it out this year. I've fished Sam Rayburn almost every week since the first of the year and one day you'll get somewhat of a pattern going then the next day they will be doing something totally different. The days that you think will be good, suck and the days that you think will suck are good. To me they are much more finicky than last year, may have something to do with not really having a winter the past few years.

What stage were these fish in? Pre-spawn, if thats what you mean. Im sure theres a handful of femals on the water that are doing their thing but the lake is largely still, as I would suspect, in the winter-spawn transition, especially after that cold monsoon we all received over a short period of time.

Pre-spawn fish can pull back out of an area if a cold front comes through. Find the next break and you'll likely find the bass.

Locating them has proven to be extrenely difficult. I went tight to cover, I hit points, rocky drop-offs from funneling areas, zero luck. Tough puzzle to solve to say the least.

When the bite stops in the bushes, leave and move to the staging areas closes to the spawning flats. Funnel Points are the key. Fish coming and going will be staged there on the slopes in 15 to 20 ft. of water. Sometimes it seems to be all about the wind. With the wind blowing holding the warmer water in the North East cuts the spawning bite is super good. Let that wind die off and the bite will stop... Thus when you thank is should be good it is not; so go to the staging points.

Cold night and bad moon phase probably effected them.
Two excuses that sound valid.

I have a question. Fished 2 feet of water up against the reeds slow rolling spinner bait and caught five to almost 19 inches from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday on Palestine. Noticed turtles were just off the reeds themselves. Kept fishing general area and swinging back by the areas I'd caught them earlier and nothing. Noticed that all the turtles had moved 50 yards off the bank at some point but continued to fish really shallow. Around 11 a.m. with no more bites I decide to make a move and notice turtles were all hanging in 6 to 8 feet of water and saw bait under them and a few fish on graph. Caught five more, all on 6xd slow rolling the bottom in the areas on way to where I was going, all small Have definitely had success using the turtles in the past but wanted to know what moved them away from the bank... warmer water or bait?
