Hi has anyone ever used Osprey fishing charters out of south padre? I will be heading down there the week of july 4 and was doing some research and found them. Price seems okay, but do they produce? Are the head boats crowded? Any info about them would help along with info about fishing off that pier. Thanks. Bill

I've been on their party boats a couple times - usually not too crowded except for weekends or holidays (heh, July 4th). Get there early so you can get a stern spot (the courtesy there is first in line gets to board first).

They seem to be pretty good in getting limits of red snapper & king mackeral. I've never gone on their bay boats or fished their pier, so don't have an opinion to share on that.

The only problem I've ever had is the simple logistics of getting allllll the way from DFW to there ... so I only go when I'm on a trip to South Padre anyways.

The pier rarely prduces much and the bay boats usually find the fish. Try and pick a day to go out with them that the weather is calm because they fish north of SPI and you have to come home against the waves. Even a three or four foot chop can make life miserable.

Thanks for all the info guys, we are staying in the rv park there, and didn't plan on taking my boat. Hopefully I can catch some fish with them.

I've only been offshore 4 times, twice from port Aransas, once out of Destin Fl., and once on the Osprey (a few years ago during the weekend of the 4th, and oddly enough, Im going again this 4th o' July, hows that for coincidence). Anywho, they seemed to put fewer persons on their boat than the ones out of Aransas, so it was a lot roomier. As I remember, we caught lots of snapper and trigger, and an assortment of other sea creatures. In my limited experience, best I've been on.

If you get a chance to bay fish, Captain Randy Rogers is the guy: www.captrandy.com

We've fished with him a couple of times and made a number of successful referrals.

Had fun, caught fish, had a few good laughs, and learned A LOT!

i'm always looking for anglers that're willing to foot-the-bill for fuel and ice to go 'big-game' fishing offshore outta PI/SPI........

[provided they're not 'drunks' or 'total idiots']

i catch alotta pelagics and the seas are usually always nice in july

but, if you're into 'pole'-fishing, my boat's not where ya wanna be.......

strictly 'BIG-GAME' fishing

i'll be there all summer taggin' billfish beginning around Memorial Day weekend this year

Bill Fisher,

Just sent you a PM. I would be interested in hearing from you regarding a big-game trip.

I fished on the Ospery on their maiden 12hr trip..

Since then they have been hit or miss..

Captain Murphy is a much better selection IMO..

Then again what do I know I only live and fish there 2 months outta the year.
