I have a MRS20WRFD0 double door fridge, bought new in '97. Lately, the freezer section is no longer freezing, and stays at or just beneath 40 degrees. It's been a very reliable fridge for so long and half of it still works well.

OT, what do I do?

Beer fridge in the garage or shop.

Clean the coils when you get it out of the house, may help it some.

Although I would check the defroster thingy after you get the new one in place. That way you also have a tequila freezer.

My office had an office fridge, same one for almost 30 years worked like a champ. My boss quit renting and built a building and when we moved she said she didn't want it I could have it or get rid of it. Unplugged it in working order Friday at 5pm put it on a trailer and drove it 200 miles to the ranch and plugged it in, it never cooled again crying

Let me add that I'm retired and church-mouse financed. I need a fix. What would cause this? The fridge still works and the same system makes the freezer cold.

As some of you know of me, I believe old school stuff is much better than new stuff and should be repaired if possible because a new one will not last like this one will/has.

My same age dishwasher is working fine now after an easy cheap fix.

They don't like to be moved. Did you keep it upright?

Check these things:
The compressor
The thermostat
The overload, relay, or capacitor
The defrost timer
The condenser fan motor

Try shutting the door.

First thing I'd do is clean the coils

I'd also 90% fill four empty Powerade plastic bottles with salt water. Screw the caps on tightly then seal the caps with HVAC aluminum tape. Freeze the salt water Powerade bottle solid (might take 48-72Hrs) in a good freezer.

Then put the frozen like a rock Powerade bottles in the sketchy freezer.

Since doing the above, I have prolonged the life of a borderline freezer in the garage.

It used to get down to about 35 degrees, but since cleaning the coils and back filling the freezer with the frozen solid Powerade bottles, it works like new.
