How the HADES do you hook bass on these plastic frogs????!!!!! I get tons of hits, but those hidden hooks just don't do the job. i've tried trailer hooks, but I just can't seem to find the rhythm. Do you count to 1.7239 seconds before you yank???? I do well with chug bugs and skitter pops.,.... I wonder if I should ring-on a skirted treble hook.

Me personally do not get the whole wait till 3 thing. I know when I fish with really good frog fishermen as well as watch frog masters like Rojas, Christie, Lane and Ish they set the hook right away. One I started doing that I started losing less fish. To each his own though. Do what works for you.

I have just recently got to the point where I hook most of my bites on a frog and have the confidence to throw it anytime. The key for me and most important is using braid. Next is a fairly stiff rod, MH to Heavy, and finally I bend the hooks out so they are just slightly off of the body of the frog. I dont wait, I stick them as soon as they have it. I do make sure the frog is gone before I set the hook, alot of times the bass will miss it but if you leave it they will come back for it. Here is a video I made from Monticello last December, you will see what I mean when I say leave it for them when they miss it but as soon as they get it I set it hard and bring them in as fast as possible. https://youtu.be/xWP7Du8psto

I tried bending the hooks and damn, those hooks are thick. Like I needed a vice to get enough leverage to bend them. Not something I could do from the boat with a small pair of pliers. My largest fish caught on a frog was a desperation set. I was 1/2 asleep on a warm still afternoon and the fish almost ripped the pole out of my hand. You set er good when you think you're losing your pole. Maybe that's the secret. The guides I've been with say to wait 2 seconds but I'm thinking getting the hooks out a little wide might be more important than the time interval. If the bass doesn't bite down on the frog itself the hooks never really get exposed even if he swallows it. Least that's what I think happens when I miss which is about 70% of the time on a frog.

I've never bent out the hooks and I've never waited to set the hook. You fish one as long as I have you get it eventually. Proper rod, reel, and line setup is critical

Get that frog into the meanest looking on the bank you can and slowly walk it out with a pause mixed in. you walk the frog the same way as a spook just a little harder flicks with more slack in your line.once a fish eats look at your line when you see it move set the hook HARD!!

Actually you have the hardest part of the whole frog fishing thing done: I get tons of hits! Have to agree with most above: set the hook! Those fish dont grab dinner and swim around with their mouth open. You will only jerk it out of their mouth if they didnt have the bait(hooks) completely in their mouth. Agree also with braided line being an important element of hookups. Lack of stretch is sometimes a good thing. For me my low percentage hookups occur when the cover is thickest such as hydrilla but the TPWD has that problem pretty well fixed for me in Texas!

Bending the hooks out make it snag more plus weakens the hooks. Not a good thing in heavy cover. I always try to buy my frogs in a sto re when I can. You will find hardness variations between colors in same brand. Black is one that seems to be a bit harder and does not compress well no matter th e brand. Not sure if it's a manufacturing by product or not but black color patterns can be harder material. I know with such plastics the dark Dr material h eats up faster and holds temp longer. Not sure if this translates to the plastic material used in frogs but maybe so. I try to open and squeeze them in the store. I want them to compress easily and I want them to return back to shape quickly. I've noticed thge ones that st ay compressed longer will take on more water when fishing. It might be overkill on my part but I love throwing a frog and have wasted a lot of hours in learning all I can.

I take them out of the box and bend the hooks up just enough to get them off the body. You can bend them up or out away from the body, whatever works best for you. My hook up ratio is unbelievable and your only bending those hooks a hair and, I haven't seen any weakness to my hooks.
