How would you guys or gals go about filling a screw hole on the top of your yak? In my case I installed a gear trak but should have thought more about the location. Seemed good at the time but I just didn’t like it when I got out on the water. Thanks

I’ve got some of the shavings from some other holes. Could I just heat that up and try to drip it in?

Doug, if you happen to have a heat gun, you can use it to pre-melt some of the HDPE shavings, at least soften it up, then press it into your hole and melt it a little more, smooth it out. Be very careful not to hold the gun too close or for too long. It'll damage your kayak. I think you might find some vids on YouTube showing this technique.
One other thing. When you get light scratches from branches and things, usually on the sides of your kayak, a heat gun will actually close those back up. Again, you have to be careful not to overheat the kayak by moving the heat gun over a large area, in and out.
I wouldn't worry about defections on the bottom. Out of sight and expected.

I would just put the screw back in with a dab of silicone and not worry about it. I would avoid the heat gun. It is a minor issue and you are just as likely to screw up your kayak as you are to make it slightly better.

Use the old drill shavings. Make a real repair. Dont use silicone, that will need repair later. A heat gun is cheeeeeep and the drill shavings are free. If you dont have any shavings look under a hatch, you can cut some small strips from the lip.
