The lake has only come up about 0.2 ft so far. It's at 238.37 ft. It only came up about .04 ft. overnight.

Is hunters orange required upstream of the 125 bridge on nails creek? On Monday the 19th those big females (white bass) felt like hybrids. I actually hooked two hybrids and my 8lb test didn't stand a chance. We cleaned 20 bass and only three were (big) males. We threw back eight or more bass because we were only keeping 12" and greater. Didn't know there is a ten inch minimum. Looks like better days ahead.

I believe you are suppose to wear hunters orange in the state park hunting area. Ive never seen it enforced though, but people could be out there hog hunting. Better safe than sorry with a ticket or being shot at on accident.
Does anyone want to guess if the weather will hold off to take a kayak up the creeks tomorrow morning... I am still debating on making the trip.

That's awesome that you hooked two big hybrids. Did you actually see them? Otherwise, our rule is you have to call it a buffalo Just kidding, where did you hook up with them? I haven't caught but one in the Yegua at this time of year. I've seen them run up in the creeks after the white bass run is over though.

If it does rain I doubt it will be more than just passing showers. The fishing continues to be red hot so I wouldn't miss out on giving it a try.

I took a looooong lunch break today and ran out to my secret spot (not the Yegua). I caught 12 white bass in 45 minutes, including a new Lake Somerville Fly rod record white bass. It officially weighed 2.1 lbs. and was 16.25 inches long. The fishing is really heating up now

J Moe I saw the hybrids. They came up on their sides and there is no mistaking their stripes nor their aggressive fight. A buffalo don't fight nearly as hard as a striper. We were catching buffaloes on rocky point and some of them were actually lazy. I thought I was hung on a limb a few times. One was caught about 250 to 300 yards down stream from the trail way bridge and the other one where the creek turns.

Buffalo fight like crazy in these creeks. But you can tell the difference in the fight between a hybrid and buffalo. Buffalo pull hard, hybrid pull hard and very fast upstream then downstream and strip drag like it wasn't even there. Buffalo strip drag but at a slow pace or in a quick burst. The hybrid is all out from hook set till you get your hands on it.

I've caught plenty of both below the dam. Hybrids also make multiple runs as compared to a buffalo. It's just a joke that Ben and I used to tease each other about. He would say I just got broke off by a big hybrid and I would tell him, Nah, that was just a worthless buffalo, LOL!!! Thanks for the information.

Thanks J Moe. I clearly understand fisherman talk. That is one of the things that I appreciate most about being in the company of such great people. Most fisherman have a great sense of humor. Catching fish don't make our day it just adds to it. Keep up your fish tales. I know that some of the pictures you post are the same fish you just turn them over(lol).
