Recessed foot control trolling motors like found on almost all bass boats give you a hands free control and allows you to continually have control of the trolling motor. Why does nearly every bay or flats boat have wireless remote instead? It can be such a hassle to constantly take your eye off the water and hand off the rod n reel to grab the remote in order to change speed and direction. Why deal with all of that when you can have a foot controlled motor and the controls are nearly effortless?!

Here's the simple answer...if it's not there you can't break it. Stuff breaks way faster in saltwater than fresh. Sand and salt eat cables up in a hurry. And in 99% of the situation in saltwater you just don't use the precise constrol you need going through a stump field on the lake.

I fish in stumpy lakes, and prefer the remote control units over foot control versions, for one very simple reason...it is much easier to get yourself off of a stump with a remote unit. when you are trolling from one place to another at half speed and run up on a stump...simply walk to the back of the boat, turn the TM on high and back right off of it...try that with a cable mounted unit. Plus ther is the anchor feature, and the contoure feature, that makes fishing while running a TM a joy...Plus, with a wireless unit, you back is not nearly as sore at the end of the day...not to mention the wireless units can be rotated 360 degrees...Plus you have like 20 speed settings, makes dialing in a speed setting very easy.
Honestly, I dont understand why anyone would want to use the outdated cable TMs...its like upgrading from a flip phone to an IPhone....

Guides use them to control the boat from elsewhere so clients can fish from the front deck. The option to fish from a casting platform or tower. Wadefishers using their power pole remote to raise the anchor, then using the trolling motor remote to deploy/steer the boat to pick them up.

when you are standing on a 6 foot tower or on the burn bar on top of the console sight casting redfish you have to have a remote. foot controls just won't work! LOL

The remote is great if you're on a tower or wade fishing. The anchor feature is nice as well. However, a lot of times I like to fish the edges of grass or other structure and I'm sorry but a remote is a major pain in the arse. A foot control is by far superior when it comes to boat position and having your eyes on the water and hands on the reel. A dual remote/food control would be awesome.

Ipilot is great for the anchor feature , and the saved track feature. Run the route one time with it recording your waypoints and you can always re run the same track at the speed you want . My model also has a plug built in to connect a foot pedal to if you would like both options

You just need to figure out how to use all the features...you can fish an entire weed like e automatically with the wireless stuff...via set waypoints, contour lines, or established track settings...any of them are easy once you learn how...

Simple answer from me: Control of the TM from anywhere on the boat
If you want to Jig from the side, pull troll lines in the back, sit at the console and watch the bigger graph, control the TM while reeling in a large fish that has you circling the boat.

Can't speak for the MK models but with my MG Xi5 I can use both the hand held remote and the wireless foot control.

I'm not an experienced foot controller, but once I got the xi5, it's been a game changer. My brother who was a very experienced foot controller, when he saw what I was able to do with the xi5, he bought it the next day; one button anchor and retie my line or take fish off the hook, or heading lock to go down a bank, or follow a 15ft depth around a point, etc...
He's been bragging about it ever since. Each has their own preference, but having the gps do the work is like having somebody else work the trolling motor so you can spend time fishing. Good luck with your decision.
