I walked into Newman's bottom this morning. I caught 17. Only the last 2 I caught were undersized. The fish quit biting around 9 AM. Just like last weekend.
The fish are extremely skittish. I didn't catch any more than 3 fish in a single spot at any given time. Nobody that I talked to or seen with a stringer had caught more than 2 fish. I was glad to be fishing with the fly rod. At one point I was fishing on one end of a curve. I gave a guy 2 fish. He had only caught one fish on the other end of the curve. He asked me to come and fish the spot he was in. I caught 3 fish in the spot he was fishing. He said, "I'm gonna get me a fly rod, that's the 2nd time you have done that to me. Two weeks ago, me and my buddies fished at Irwin bridge the entire day and didn't catch a single white, then you showed up and started catching them immediately with your fly rod, LOL"
They wanted a slightly faster presentation today. I had to keep the fly moving with short 1 inch strips to get a bite. I tried pulling it slowly on bottom, making long strips and pausing and even reeling it in and never got a bite. I didn't see anyone fishing with a rooster tail though, that might be the ticket with conventional gear. I also heard there were people catching them with live bait near Irwin bridge yesterday. Great report, Jamie. Sounds like fly rod is the ticket right now.

Enjoyed the video, as always. Great catching as well. It looks like there are few females starting to move into the Wolf Pond area. Maybe they will start moving upstream soon.
When I was out Saturday morning it was dead calm and I was thinking it would be a great day to take the yak out. By the time I got home the wind was blowing. After watching your video I sure am glad I didn't. That looked like one rough ride back to the boat dock.

I went out to Irwin bridge yesterday. From 4 PM to 5:15 PM I caught only 3 white bass. Then a combination of things occurred. The fish started biting better and I finally figured out the presentation they wanted. For the next hour I caught them fairly steady. At least on every 3rd or 4th cast I got a bite. They would only take the fly on the fall so I made long fast strips and let the fly fall. There were 7 of us fishing in the area. One guy yelled at me, "You are the only one catching fish, that's just not fair." So I gave away 12 fish to a couple different people. I threw back another 12 or so smaller males. So as most of you expert white bass fisherman know, it's all about the presentation, especially in these low, clear water situations. I hate to sound like I'm bragging, especially since I've fished with many of you guys that are better fisherman than me, but I find it hilarious at times. I took a friend of mine with me last week. We both used a fly rod. I caught 8 and he didn't catch a single one. You just never know from day to day what type of presentation is needed.

I was fishing with a guide one time and he was trying to explain presentation to my wife. He said "Pretend you are playing with a cat. Move the cat toy in different ways and see which way it likes best." I thought it was funny at the time, but actually applicable to fishing. Sometimes our cat will play with just about anything, other times she's only interested in specific toys or household objects, and then there are times when she is in nap mode and dead to the world. Much like fish I guess.

Thankfully, guys like yourself, Troy, Shea, Fishytx, Ben and others are always willing to share their knowledge with the rest of us.

They would only take the fly on the fall I had a similar experience fishing a jig on Yegua. The crappie would hit after I stopped reeling and waited a couple seconds. I wondered if they were picking it up off the bottom. I have difficulty fishing that slow, but it's definitely the way to get that "thump" on a cold day.

The whites are there for 1 thing and 1 thing only.. and its not chasing bait.
Ill share my trick as i dont fish the creek anymore.
Use a light 1/16oz jig head with tube bait. Perferably a white/chart combo. Not the curly tails..those are junk.
Toss to far bank and swim that jig back by just moving your rod tip up and back down..repeat till its at your feet. Youll catch more fish in shorter time. Id bet my boat on it.
Have fun and enjoy the creeks fellers.
