We had Hospice for my dad 3 years ago...they were great. Let them tell you what they can do, then ask for anything that crosses your mind. Our help was there for him and the family. God blessed us with great people.
Prayers for you all.

We are just using the service the Dr is sending out- The end of the line is hard. Been there. Prayers up. Depending on the finance situation it will be signing over the family farm and Medicaid when that runs out.
And I know who "Jeff" is.

They were the most catering folks i ever met. They were always onetime and very nice to work with. They took over all the things you were doing and more. Made my wife's fathers last weeks on earth more enjoyable. For everyone.

We were blessed that my dads hospice nurse was a neighbor and long time family friend.

In our experience, they are on earth
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

What are they evaluating him for? Seems like it may be end of his time here with us soon- The question is whether you are going to keep him at home or move him to a facility Money is always a big factor in that decision

They are good people. They will help with bathing, provide supplies, prescriptions, a Chaplin if needed, and these benefits are all charged to Medicare and nothing to your father. There are guide lines that have to be met they will evaluate at three months and as long as there is no improvement he will stay on hospice. While he is on hospice you will use their Dr however you can still go see his Dr if you want.
My wife was on hospice at this time last year but was remove at the end of March due to improvement and will most likely be placed back on at some time in the future.
Peace and comfort to you and your family during this time.

I have experienced end of life care with my mother, my uncle and my father-in-law. The one piece of advice I will offer is that you need to encourage all the family and friends to visit with your dad well before it becomes obvious that time is running out. If they wait for the morphine drip, your dad may not be in a state where he can interact with them.
