I just wish I could use my knowledge and experience fishing a post 2000 Fork and fish it 86-92. Not that my knowledge or experience is all that great but man that would be awesome to fish some spots I can imagine used to be wonderful like you guys describe. Oddly, I did catch one of my bigger bass there spring 2000, but things were different already. I missed it at its best for sure. Anybody have a time machine? I just caught the last few mins of Back to the Future in my hotel room. If we can just get our hands on a Delorean....

Spraying of the grass I think was the main cause. But not by Sabine. In the early 90's was the big boom around Fork for homes being built. I would witness people all the time spraying their own grass on their shorelines with who knows what. You start mixing tons of different chemicals in the water and some in the dead grass, bad $hit is gonna happen, and it did. YES...SEE LAKE JACKSONVILLE I grew up on it and it has had ups and downs but the snowflakes in the lake assn and Richard Ott sheet the bed on that lake....I'm talking about a dumpster fire of "government grass eradication" gone way wrong the fine TPWD realized their screw up on amount of fish per acre and then hosted a carp bow fishing deal a little time after, LOL......freaking stop spraying stuff in the lakes and leave the grass alone I agree with the theory that LMBV was a cover up of another screw up

And I don't think they learned a damn thing either... because this year they sprayed ostensibly to kill salvinia in Glade, but killed all the pads too, and all the trees close to the water Well that sux's, I understand the concern over the Salvina. We reported a small patch in Penson, our arm of the lake. It was confirmed and eradicated quickly 2 yrs ago, they didn't over due it just the affected area.. Interesting thoughts on the Hyacinth and possibly the Salvina.. The extreme cold last couple weeks teens&twenty's will knock the Hyacinth back, I've seen that myself in 2011-2012, two above average cold winters.. I haven't been out since before Christmas, so I'm curious to see how North Birch creek looks.. Those extreme temps work in favor of killing those foreign invaders from warm countries, hopefully the GS will get its azz kicked from some uncomfortable weather....

Thank goodness!!!! Cause we found some too right behind some land we just bought in there.

Cold will put a hurt on Salvina just like it does other vegetation, but it will come back if it isnt completely eradicated. There is some collateral damage but its hard for me to complain about spraying salvinia no matter the result. Its the greatest threat out there to our fisheries in my opinion. I think the corps on Rayburn had done a great job. The current hydrilla boom on Rayburn has coincided with aggressive control of salvinia in many areas.

I saw some very lively looking salvinia floating around the boat dock at Monticello the first of this month.

I was out there several times before it shut down and a couple of times in the summer. Hyacinth yes, Salvinia, never saw any.

We shared a lake house for about 10 years on Fork and were there during that period. Our neighbor was Robert Smith he taught us how to Crappie fish and we did that for about 2 years.

I was out there several times before it shut down and a couple of times in the summer. Hyacinth yes, Salvinia, never saw any. I have never seen it growing out there either and was out there 4 times in December. There was just a small piece floating and I took a good look at it up close. I'm no plant guy but it looked just like the picture below. I didn't report as I thought I heard something about them spraying for it there earlier in the year... maybe got it confused with Murvaul but hoped the freeze over the first got it. Are there any other plants that have the curvy leaves like those above?

That's Salvinia, and yes, it's possible. The size scope on this picture is off a bit, to put it in perspective, each of these wavy little leaves are typically about the size of a quarter.
