WTH is so great about these things. From what I can tell it is like a ladies version of sous vide.... Is it really anything other than an overpriced pressure pot?

Use ours a couple times a week. Its kind of fool proof and can cook really fast. You can throw frozen food in there during the week if you forget to take something out. Weve used it also as a slow cooker. And have used it for a big pot of oatmeal when we had a bunch of guests. Its pretty handy.

Isnt it a modern day version of the old pressure cooker?

My sister got one and then bought Mom one for Christmas...so my brother-in-law bought my other sister one. She made mac and cheese in hers last night. It was good. Overpriced, fool proof, pressure cooker.

Yes sir. Digital and programmable. Several brands available.

Not an option for smart phones that I am aware of yet though.

Thats it exactly. My wife is using it tomorrow to make black eyed peas and ham

Its best for soups and curries where the primary ingredients are vegetables/potatoes/etc

Still prefer the crock pot for stews prefer the slow rendering of meat/fat instead of pressure cooker

My oldest sister said one of her friends made a cheesecake in one. Said it was good. I'm skeptical.

My wife uses hers all the time, truth be told, every thing she makes in it tastes the exact same. Its like it smashes all the flavors together, I prefer the crockpot.
