What tool in your tool box is "best"? A 12" Crescent wrench. In addition to its obvious intended use, it can also be used as a hammer or a pry bar

if you are from Minnesota a spinning reel. if you ARE FROM MOST OTHER PLACES IN THE SOUTH A CONVENTIONAL REEL and blondes.

I prefer a bait casting reel for all applications, including drop shot and shakey head. Skipping docks is a little bit more difficult with this rig, but you CAN do it, but you better have an educated thumb. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Garcia, Shimano, Diawa, Quantam and Lews are pretty good but you can catch bass on Zebco too and they're a lot cheaper.

As others have pointed out, not a great way of thinking about reels, but I would venture to say that in Texas, a bait caster is used much more frequently than a spinning reel in bass fishing...
