Had the pleasure to fish the Yegua creek with J-Moe yesterday. In total, I think he probably caught over 100 fish - including a mixture of lmb, crappie, white bass and sunfish. I caught my share but not nearly as many. The crappie fishing was good at various spots under and around Irwin bridge. We also fished at the 36 bridge and had some luck with a couple schools of white bass, almost all of which were undersized but fun to catch. I forget the tally for each of us for white bass, so maybe J-Moe will recall. A guy across the creek under the bridge was tearing up the catfish with chicken livers. All said, a great day of fishing and hope to do it again this winter during the WB run. It was a great time. It took an extra month but Fall fishing has finally reached full strength. I went back Friday morning and continued where we left off. It was non stop again until the wind picked up and the bp started falling. I caught a lot of undersized crappie, a 10 inch bluegill and a couple red ear sunfish. I went out to the ranch ponds this morning and the big crappie and bass were biting there too. It's one of those peak fishing times of year I caught this crappie pond fishing this morning. With the mouth closed and tail pinched it was just under 15 inches. I mean barely. I couldn't stretch it. Nice crappies and sunfish. Was that private body caught crappie almost a record?
It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Thanks for the report and video greenyak.
You didn't have to go far to find lmb, crappie and even bowfin. I can only imagine how good the fishing is around Newman's bottom. The Newman's bottom area is still closed to even walk in traffic right now. I'm finding crappie everywhere I go so it may be time to try Nails again.
I've never caught a bowfin. It would be awesome to catch one on my fly rod. I'm sure I'll catch one by accident some day.
When I saw 20 to 30 mph winds on Saturday I assumed you would have made other plans. You are a brave man to venture out in those winds. Me, not a chance. I learned one fault of my Native. It doesn't handle waves and wind very well. the north wind came around about 1 oclock and the trees started to fall so had to go.

It was a tenth of a pound under my current record.

the north wind came around about 1 oclock and the trees started to fall so had to go. That's something important to note. When the winds started blowing last year while we were bank fishing it became like a war zone with trees falling everywhere. Another 17 feet rise in the lake ain't gonna make it any better this year.

When the COE dropped the flow down last weekend the crappie and catfish started to bunch up around the 36 bridge. It didn't take but a few days before the bait buckets, beer cans, soda cups and plastic bags showed up. I took a trash bag with me and cleaned up. I'm starting to identify the offenders. Maybe if I start carrying trash bags in my pocket and trying to educate anyone I see with a bait bucket of beer can I might make a difference. It's always been a struggle for me between promoting the parks or protecting them. I realized long ago that even if I didn't post the word got out on hot fishing. Facebook seems to be a greater media. I also realized that a lot of the offenders I see trashing the place probably don't even have a computer. So that will be my goal going forward. Instead of getting angry, I'll be proactive first. Maybe I can at least influence some of the youngsters as they grow up in this great country.

The thing I'm most disappointed about with todays Texas is the excessive littering. Littering seems to get worse every year to the point that it becomes normal behavior for those that do the offending. If the COE closed the spillway this last summer for more than the stated "safety" reasons I fully understand and support the effort at stemming the littering. I will no longer support the open access to the spillway (or any other public byway) if the littering doesn't stop. We all pay the price for the crime of littering.

I headed back to the dam this evening. Same thing, if you get in the right spot you can catch white bass continuously. I'm spoiled now. Catching multiple 16 inch white bass too. I still haven't caught a hybrid though. I guess that's the only thing that would make it better.
On another note. I picked up a bag full of trash when I got to the bridge. There were a couple groups of fisherman that I picked up trash around their feet. One old man actually got up and helped me. And when I got back they had all picked up their garbage before leaving. Maybe it's enough to shame people into cleaning up after themselves.

The littering in Texas is rediculous. However I will never support shutting down or closing any area to public access. If this is the case they should shut down the lakes entirely. Every Lake I have been to with public areas has litter and you cant walk two feet with out finding glass. The only way to stop the littering is to fine those who litter. The spill way is closed so there is more litter at the other two locations. Closing the spillway only moved the litterers to another location. It did not stop the littering. The glass can be stopped entirely by not allowing glass containers at our lakes.
I respect hook-line&sinker and consider him my friend. But closing areas is not the answer, that only allows people breaking laws to take away even more from us. It needs to be stopped.

Enjoyed the video. Looks like it is improving week by week. I drove out to the Nails creek boat ramp Saturday morning. I saw the guy with the motorized kayak leaving the boat ramp. I decided to try out the kayak cart I built and drag my kayak into Nails. The first test of the kayak cart was a failure. It was pretty much a failure this time too. I have to redesign it to fit my hull properly. I fished for about an hour in Nails and only caught one catfish. I guess I'll wait until January before I try it again.
