On most of my reels the level wind moves when casting, but I noticed that my Abu morrum started casting like [censored] and the level wind does not move. I know some reels the level wind does not move and I'm not sure if mine stopped or never moved, or what would cause it to stop working. It moves fine when reeling.

Turn the reel over. On the front under the level wind arm is a channel with a shaft with grooves inside the channel. There is a slotted cap on the bottom of the level wind. Inside the nut is a pawl that runs in the groove of the shaft. It may be worn or broken or the nut may be loose or missing. Olsens in lake worth will rebuild most reels. Southwest in Dallas does also.
Sorry just reread your post. I see it reels fine. I don't know about the moving when casting on a that reel.

I can't remember Shane Davies handle on here but I think he used to run Morrum's a lot. I'm sure someone knows his screen name, I'd ask him. It's yakinyota or somethin like that.

I would replace the pawl. I doubt your worm gear is worn out. Youtube it. It is cheap and easy.

A very easy fix. i go get the parts from Southwest parts in Dallas. Off of Irving blvd. And do it myself. I have had some ABU Garcia reels for over 15 years. All I change is the whole level whine parts.

Sounds like you need a new pawl to me. It's somewhat of a common problem with Abus but is a very cheep and easy to fix. I stocked up on a bunch of them for less than a dollar a piece and have them stored in a special drawer at home. If one goes out I can fix it that day and have the reel back in operation the next day.

I cleaned it up and there's no visible damage. Is it the prawl and worm gear or just the prawl?
