OK OTers, I'm calling upon the compendium of all knowledge in the hopes a couple of you may actually have an answer that will help.

I need to kill some poison ivy but there is a catch. It's growing intertwined in a rose bush my wife's late mother planted years ago.
Every time I try to cut it out, no matter how careful I am, the rose thorns will scratch me and I get a small dose.
So I can't burn it out. Is there anything out there that will kill the poison ivy but not harm the rose bush?

It would be tedious and take a real steady hand but you might try one of the larger artists paint brushes and "paint" the poison ivy leaves with Roundup avoiding the rose bush leaves. Do it on a calm day when the wind isn't blowing everything together. I don't think you have to get every leaf to kill it. Use some throwaway gloves and a long sleeve shirt that goes straight into the washer when you're done. Might take a couple of go rounds but I think that might work.

Or try to find someone that's not affected by poison ivy - some people aren't. And pay them to dig it out.

Also, don't ever burn poison ivy. The smoke is BAD stuff if you get it in your lungs!

This will work. Do it early in the day (on a day without a chance of rain). As stated, you do not have to get every leaf so avoid the ones closest to the rose bush.

You will need some gloves, a quart sized zip seal bag and some roundup. Fill the bag up about half way, cram a branch of the poison ivy with several leaves down into the roundup and zip it up. Will kill the entire poison ivy plant in a couple days.

What about spraying a small stream of Roundup right where the vine comes up out of the ground?

Roundup is not going to do the job completely...for a complete kill..you need remedy....just score or cut the base of the plant and rub the remedy on the main vine...it will die...the problem is remedy is 90$ a gallon.

Ok I was wrong (sort of)... apparently there is a round up product called poison ivy and brush killer that has Roundup (which is glysophate) and remedy (which is tryclopyr) in it....this would be a very affordable Solution....I would still manually apply it undiluted to the main Vine...this will work I have done it many times...it will also work on any small trees that come up through your shrubs ect.

Roundup will kill poison ivy. Also, wash your skin real good with dawn dish soap within 30 minutes of contact.

Wear gloves, wear old clothes to include long sleeve shirt. Cut the ivy out. Place Ivy in plastic bag. Strip down and place the clothes in the bag. Throw away the bag.

Then shower using Technu liquid soap. Lather it up and rinse. Lather it up again and rinse.
