I have never used jerkbaits...but they interest me and I want to try very soon
Which ones are the best? Some are $25 and look very nice but that's too expensive for a small bait...or is it worth it?
What line do I use? Thanks TFF!

Honestly, the Megabass Vision 110 is the most popular jerkbait on the market. There's a reason too... it just works. I have 30-40 of them and they are well worth the price. I've yet to find a jerkbait that produces better and matches the Vision 110 action.
That being said, the Lucky Craft Pointer is probably the second-most popular jerkbait on the market. It seems to cast the best out of any jerkbait. I've had pretty good success with the Pointer series and I always keep a few with me in the boat.
One jerkbait that's a total sleeper if you ask me, is the Berkley Cutter. It's an awesome jerkbait and has a truly unique action.
Keep in mind that this is not all set in stone. It's just based on what I've witnessed.
As far as line goes, I prefer 8-10lb fluorocarbon, but I will bump up to 12lb if I want the bait to run shallower.
Feel free to send me a PM for some jerkbait tips.

Cost effective jerkbaits that are great. You may have to modify a few of these options with suspend dots if they don't suspend to your liking right out of the package Rapala Husky Jerk Luck E Strike Rick Clunn Storm Twitch Stick Strike King KVD Rapala Xrap and shadow rap The H20 Xpress jerkbaits at Academy are OK also Medium Rod with Medium power. I prefer to use a spinning rod and reel, like the All Star classic or the All Star spin pop. I like 15-20lb braid mainline to 10lb leader neutrally buoyant line like Pline CX, Yozuri Hybrid, or HiSeas Grand Slam Select Copoly. With light lures, a spinning rod with medium power and braid mainline will cast the jerkbait the easiest and the furthest. Video on how to make sure the jerkbait suspends to your liking.

I love the academy brand jerkbaits.
I like the ghost minnow pattern in the shallow diving, and the natural shad in the deep diving.
I've thrown these in front of and behind Lucky Crafts and Megabass and I have always caught more fish with the Academy brand.
I've yet to be convinced that the more expensive ones are worth the extra money.
I love throwing them on a medium action Ugly Stick Lite.

i have some megabass that i save for tournament day. i use smithwick most of the time though. i dont feel as bad if i lose an 8$ bait as opposed to a 25$. ive caught multiple gar on rayburn this year using a jerkbait and id rather not have them destroy the paint on my megabass

I like the H2O Suspending jerkbaits, and they're only about $4. I've bought more expensive brand name ones and always go back to the H2O.

I’ve had good luck with Rapala shadow raps. Not as expensive but works well.

What colors do you guys like for the Megabass Vision 110? Hard to beat Mat Shad. French Pearl, GP Crystal Shad, GP Pro Blue, GP Sexy Shad, HT Kossori Shad, Ito Natural, Ozark Shad, Elegy Bone, Megabass Sexy Shad, Sexy French Pearl and PM Threadfin Shad are some of the better sellers. I use Mat Shad the most.

What line do I use? Thanks TFF! I'll make you a deal, if you wanna build some confidence in throwing a jerkbait. I would be happy to have you over to my shop and let you take your pick from any I have painted up and ready to go. The first one is on the house and if you get to catching fish on it and want to get some different colors. I sell mine for $12 built up with the best hardware you can buy!

Google jerkbait fishing lake of the Ozarks or table rock lake. Great info there. Will shorten the learning curve.
